Tried several times to change the wallpaper, both with
      gksu antixccslim.sh
and through the control center/sessions, but after I select the new background from /usr/share/wallpapers (the same as the one used for the WM desktop) and press Commit and then OK, the login screen still shows the original wallpaper.
What is the correct method for changing the wallpaper on the login screen?
      Thanks!

Try the one on the control centre sessions tab? After selecting on, View it, then close the view, and click commit. You need to logout and login for it to take effect.

Yeah, BobC, that is exactly what I have done but no change occurred to the login screen wallpaper.

To make it work here on antiX19 I edited the /etc/slim.conf file as root
            It was missing a line
            current_theme antiX

            # current theme, use comma separated list to specify a set to
            # randomly choose from
            #current_theme BlueLines
            #current_theme BlueLinesLight
            #current_theme antiXIce
            #current_theme DarkCity
            #current_theme PrettyPink
            #current_theme SunnyDay
            current_theme antiX

              That worked.
