      Installed a larger LCD screen on this shop desktop install.

      harry@shop1:~
      $ inxi -G
      Graphics:
        Device-1: NVIDIA C61 [GeForce 6100 nForce 405] driver: nouveau v: kernel
        Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 1.20.11 driver: X: loaded: nouveau
          unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,vesa gpu: nouveau resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz
        OpenGL: renderer: NV4C v: 2.1 Mesa 20.3.5
      harry@shop1:~

      Trouble was. fbdev was loaded along side with nouvaue driver and only gave me a resolution that was too big for the screen. Even though the 1920×1080 was shown in arandr and xrandr. No other choices.

      So. At first I tried nvidia installer. But this onboard soldered video chip is not supported anymore with the antiX control center nvidia installer.
      So got lucky when I checked kernel 4.9 and saw fbdev was unloaded and 19201080 fit right on screen. I’d lose conky with fbdev loaded right next to nouvaue.
      Also close buttons in browser.

      So here is my /usr/lib/modprobe.d/fbdev-blacklist.conf now from stock

      harry@shop1:~
      $ cat /usr/lib/modprobe.d/fbdev-blacklist.conf
      # This file blacklists most old-style PCI framebuffer drivers.

      blacklist arkfb
      blacklist aty128fb
      blacklist atyfb
      blacklist radeonfb
      blacklist cirrusfb
      blacklist cyber2000fb
      blacklist radeonfb
      blacklist kyrofb
      blacklist matroxfb_base
      blacklist mb862xxfb
      blacklist neofb
      blacklist pm2fb
      blacklist pm3fb
      blacklist s3fb
      blacklist savagefb
      blacklist sisfb
      blacklist tdfxfb
      blacklist tridentfb
      blacklist vt8623fb
      # This file blacklists most old-style PCI framebuffer drivers.
      blacklist nvidiafb

      The last line. Blacklist nvidiafb was what I added to get this now with the inxi 0G readout. Check out xrandr now with fbdev removed.

      harry@shop1:~
      $ xrandr
      Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 4096 x 4096
      VGA-1 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 510mm x 287mm
         1920x1080     60.00*+
         1280x1024     60.02
         1440x900      59.89
         1280x800      59.81
         1152x864      75.00
         1024x768      70.07    60.00
         800x600       60.32    56.25
         640x480       66.67    59.94
         720x400       70.08

      So if you have a old nvidia chip and scrren is too large on one kernel and OK on another. I can say antiX kernel 4.4 had the same problem as

      harry@shop1:~
      $ uname -a
      Linux shop1 5.10.57-antix.1-amd64-smp #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Aug 8 11:11:51 EEST 2021 x86_64 GNU/Linux

      So I had to boot into problem kernels and do my edits.
      HTH someone.
