Is there a way to change the number of workspaces, other than editing ~/.icewm/preferences?

In the default antiX 19 IceWM setup, the hotkeys for Workspaces 1 through 4 are still enabled, but the other workspaces aren’t shown by default.

@dfswifi Not directly fulfulling your wish, we found no gui tool to work reliably.
Traditional way was not immediately obvious In Icewm preferences, but very simple and fast once known.
In /home/your username/.icewm/preferences
#Added a preference for 6 Workspaces

on its own that did not work as workspace limit was set to standard 2 in our installations,
that also meant the shortcuts for 3 and 4 were present but not usable.changing

allows to use up to 10 workspaces if wished for,did not try more.
for switching we use.

All I had to do was edit line c883 in preferences (as above). Then restart icewm.

yes, I installed and tried using the IceWMCC, but it didn’t make the change.

I usually create four workspaces, but I use words, not numbers.
As in the example anti provided, I use quotes with spaces around each word.
Example:
WorkspaceNanes=” Web “, ” Mail “, ” Term ‘, ” Edit ‘

I have not exceeded four workspaces.
Also when you restart IceWM it usually doesn’t work right.
Logout and login, that works better.
You ought to be able to make more workspaces matching the keystroke accelerators.--

The guy in the article does have some compelling ideas and uses for Fluxbox, and I respect them. One really nice thing about having the option to use secific window managers (such as Fluxbox, IceWM, jwm, fvwm, etc.) is that you can set up and create exactly what you want. Desktop management environments, such as KDE, GNOME, Xfce, Lxqt, offer a more integrated solution. Some of them (KDE in particular) allow a fairly good amount of customization, too, but they also include many resources and features that you either don’t use, don’t need, or in the case of many of us with old computers, don’t want at all.
Fluxbox, to this day, may be one of the most flexible window managers, and it was actually the original default window manager offered with antiX and naturally it is still available today. I suggested many years ago that we add IceWM to our distribution and make it the default. The reason I suggested IceWM as a default is that it has a very easy, simple interface that may be somewhat easier than Fluxbox for people who are migrating to antiX from some popular commercial software. A primary reason for this is that Fluxbox, by default anyway, uses right button mouse clicks for many functions, whereas IceWM, though you can change it, uses left button by default. IceWM can also switch from right handed to left handed, and two button to three button mouses by some simple text file configuration changes. Other window managers may have some of these functions too, but I felt that IceWM had easier default settings for the beginner, whereas Fluxbox and some of the other window managers have neat features, but the experienced user community can switch to these and use them easier than a beginner having to switch. Since both IceWM and Fluxbox are efficient users of resources, they both make suitable window managers for antiX, just for people with different levels of comfort and experience.
I have the following setup in my IceWM preferences file (along with many of the default settings):
