I have installed antix on a asus c300m Chromebook and i have everything working except sound. I did some searching but everything i have found is several years old and don’t work. I’m just stuck. its a case of too many google results.

::I have a chromebook with antiX. And sound is the only thing I couldn’t get to work either.
(Not just antiX, though, I’ve read that these are generally not supported by Linux. I’m hoping that maybe someday… but till then… )I bought one of these on ebay:
“USB 2.0 External 7.1 Channel 3D Virtual Audio Sound Card Mic Adapter Laptop PC”(Do a search. There are many sellers. Make sure if you buy one, get one in the 2-3 dollars/euros/pounds range, because that’s all I paid, and it works perfectly.)
The drawbacks: It takes up one (of my 2) usb ports, and it needs earbuds/external speakers/headphones.
(But I don’t use sound except with earbuds, anyway, so it works perfectly for me.)Hope that helps. 🙂

::Here it is claimed the sound on the asus c300 chromebook works with the old 4.4 kernel.
https://linux-issues.blogspot.com/2019/07/how-to-install-linux-kernel-44-in.html
Might be worth a try, the 4.4 kernel is easily installed in antiX

::4.4 kernel didn’t help. Tried 5.10 and it didn’t boot. Tried installing pulseaudio and no dice.

::Hello hotrodwinston and christophe,
Have you tried this method to get sound working on 4.4 kernel?

::on 4.4 the touchpad didnt work so i didnt try troubleshooting much.
on the included install kernel when i run the first command it returns
“sudo: alsa: command not found”October 31, 2021 at 12:09 pm #69835Member

::For better troubleshooting, we need
inxi -Axxx
For hardware card information, andaplay -l aplay -LFor all available audio devices recognized by alsa.

::Also, to rule it out, did you already look in control-centre > hardware > select soundcard
and in alsamixer if nothing is muted ?November 1, 2021 at 1:51 am #69874Memberhotrodwinston
::Nothing is muted. here are the outputs of the commands:
After multiple attempts at posting it both in and out of code boxes and being told it “appeared to be spam”, it “contained a contact”, and I was “sending too many messages” I decided to put it in a text file and attach it.

::I searched a bit, and it seems that the fix was included in alsa-ucm-conf package in antiX-21/debian-11.
I will see if the package can be installed in antiX 19 and report back.EDIT: Cannot install on antiX-19 because of a library problem. I suggest you try antiX 21 live on a USB stick, install alsa-ucm-conf from the repos (via synaptic or terminal), and see if you can select the card from the “select sound card” program.
I will test myself on a similar device where I had no audio on antiX 19 (it has a different sound card, so not the same device), but that won’t be until the afternoon here.

::I think I went on a wild goose chase here.
Based on this linux-mint topic, you should be able to get the soundcard to work by playing around with some alsamixer options.tried antiX 21 live on my cherrytrail based tablet, installed alsa-ucm-conf and restarted alsa
alsactl kill rescan
but it still didn’t seem to work. I will study this a bit better with persistence just to see if I can experiment a bit to load the correct also configuration (in my case, it is for bytcht-es8316 soundcard. You would need to load the configuration for chtmax98090 based on this bug-reportTomorrow I will try something different.
