Sorry I missed that detail about your OS version-
If you have a live usb/dvd-rom/VirtualMachine, you can try your luck in installing a version of the app, not meant for your OS- but it will probably not even install, and complain about dependencies… Even if it installs, it will probably mess up your system

You can try your luck compiling a version of Ungoogled-Chromium for you system, using the instructions available in https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium-debian#installing (but I never tries that- I’ve always used the appimage or the .deb versions)

Regarding 32-bit systems, the two laptop systems that I had between 2007-2018 were 32 bit, but in 2015 I got a 64 bit laptop and seldom used the older systems anymore and there are a dwindling number of distributions that support them; I’m glad that our distribution still supports 32 bit hardware.

          Yes, I agree.
I am grateful that antiX honors the value of older equipment.
I feel at home here and appreciate the kind and patient help when I need it.
          Thank you

Try palemoon browser – at least for now – the 32 bit version is regularly updated via our repositories including antiX-17 series.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

              Thanks for the suggestion.

I just got word from PaleMoon this week that they are discontinuing their 32 bit version after the most recent update which came out this week. So, this will be the last update for PaleMoon 32 bit.

                Hi greyowl,
                Maybe not the last update.
Announcement is palemoon team is discontinuing the binary from the official site.
I have no direct info but guess Mr Steve Pusser will continue to build 32
bit as long as that is possible.

I hope you are right–that would be great.
Please let us know if you get any more information on this issue.

Another option is to use seamonkey.

Thanks, I will try SeaMonkey after trying Chromium AppImage.

I downloaded Chromium AppImage from https://apprepo.de/appimage/chromium
There was not an option for 32 bit or 64 bit. There is only one option.
I changed the permissions to include “execute”,
It will not open when I right click and choose “execute”.
Maybe, it is for 64 bit computers?

Version 89.0.4336.0 (Developer Build) (64-bit) – so yes, the version I downloaded (on a 64-bit system, automatically downloaded a 64-bit instance. Don’t know if there are other versions available there or not. This one works well though.

Yes, I think there must only be the 64 bit version so it won’t run on my 32 bit system.

Almost 100% of all appimages are for 64 bits, unfortunatly…
I almost forgot my usual recomendation for low specs computers:
                              badwolf

it’s in the repo (you can install it with sudo apt install badwolf )
It’s a secure browser (always runs on incognito mode)- and thanks to Xecure is has a dedicated antiX version ( 32 and 64 bits) and now comes with an option to use favourites. By default it launches without JavaScript – you have to click the “JS” button to activate it.

It’s fast, easy on resources and very compatible with modern webpages. Try checking out if it’s compatible with your 32 bits CPU…

EDIT: after reading Xecure’s post below- Dang! I’m getting senile early! I forgot you are on antiX 17.X, sorry – again, one solution would be trying to compile badwolf from scratch – it was the first (and only) program I succefully compiled on Linux! – search for badwolf’s thread here in the forum, to see how I did it (on antiX 19.X, 64 bits). I’m not sure you can build it on antiX 17.X, considering Xecure’s comment (and he is the Badwolf expert here)

Unfortunately I didn’t build it for stretch repos. I will try but I don’t have much hope for it.

Sorry for pointing to a wrong architecture appimage. I have wasted your time. Let me try to make it up with badwolf, but I am not so sure it will build for stretch libraries. I will try and report back.
