      Hi,
While doing an update today of my Antix 19 systen, the Chromium package was gone. Trying to reinstall did not work since dependency problems were reported (Libc6 and others).
Is there something wrong with the latest updates ?
Many thanks beforehand for your help
      Jacques

Hi, I run antiX-21 testing at home and I recently experienced that updates removed ‘vlc’ media player.
I did not experience this on antiX-21 stable and definitely not with ‘chromium’.

My conclusion is that these things may occasionally happen and the affected package(s) can usually be installed after some time.
This is a reason I tend to monitor the report by the update/upgrade/install tools I use, namely ‘apt’ (run from console in my case), and search for packages to be removed.

Also, if you desire another opinion, posting output of ‘inxi -Frz’ would be helpful.

        EDIT:
To avoid removal of a specific package, you may decline updates until the removal is no longer proposed.
More fancy way would be temporary usage of apt-pinning or similar fancy stuff.
The apt-pinning can “hold” a package at a specific version; not quite sure if it blocks the removal.
(apt-pinning can block install, that’s how ‘systemd’ is kept out of antiX).

I seem to recall having a Chromium browser update on one, possibly more than one, distribution within the past 1-2 days without any other issues at all.

I guess best for me is to go to Antix 21. All those dependency problems showing up while trying to reinstall Chromium are maybe a signal to me that it’s time to install a fresh system from scratch.

I remember that the update (using Antix update scrip) was reading the Buster part of Debian deposits, but the Bullseye part of the Antix/MX repos. Strange and maybe part of the problem. This happened whatever the mirror (Dutch, German or French locations).

Or another browser. I’m running two systems with antiX 19.5 using mainly Firefox-esr but also Chrome without a problem.

Thats strange! All the update script is doing is running sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade -V

When I update I only get “buster” repos and I have not changed any source list files.

On my Sid install, all my repositories are listed in apt update as from unstable as they should be.

I just did a simulated install of chromium on this system and it didn’t have a dependency issue.

At next boot of my antiX-19 system, I will check the repos listed as active.
