I have gotten it to down load mail but it will not send . it say it dose list it as sent but dose not show up any ideas why

hi corn-pop, likely a settings problem. Put all settings as it might help others too. Although I will not use or recommend products from the spy company big G.
First enable IMAP in Gmail
Setup Claws
Servers are
imap.gmail.com = incoming mail server
smtp.gmail.com o= utgoing Mail Server.Incoming Server, port 993 and set your encryption from “None” to “SSL”.
Outgoing Server, type 587 and set your encryption to TLS.
check the box that says “outgoing server requires authentication”

I am not sure if this has been fixed, but gmail had blacklisted claws mail in their “secure list of mail clients”, and has authentication errors. The same goes for kmail. The only one I am sure is reliable for gmail is Thunderbird.

General Live Boot Parameters for antiX.Seems one point missing, Claws does work with G Mail, kids use it.
On top of what I wrote you will need to
“Enable less secure app access”
in your G mail settings. Claws is secure its about non support for OAUTH2.

Moddlt I have seen that page but my configuration under configuration is different than that they speak of their I have 3.17.3 I tried to get the information put in even not under the heading it says . but I can not get it to send mail .
that is why I posted here maybe the problem could be solved in an other way .

Ok understood, you did not give a version so assumed you had tried most recent.
Moddit AntiX is running Claws 3.17.5 from Debian Testing. No Backport available at
present.If you were happy with GMail you could update to claws from testing on a live stick
If happy with it you can install that package to your main system then disable the
testing repo and update after to be sure your apt list is back to stable.Did you take a look for clues on why you are unable to send mail under Claws Extras Network Protokoll ?.

That is highly dependent on the country you are in.

as I do not go to google sites maybe you could educate me and other forum members on on what is secure and privacy respecting about google and gmail. Especially when, as many users do using chromium or most chrome based browsers for access to the offering.What might be considered insecure about the two mentioned applications, Claws Mail and Thunderbird when correctly setup. Please elaborate.
The reason google does not want you to use applications rather than logging in with non privacy respecting chromium or a limited number of other browsers with insecure settings is that there is loss of advertising revenue and more difficulty in user tracking involved. Neither application reads out your machine id ID and sends it for example, neither allows advanced fingerprinting of your machine, finding exact location by IP and in many cases WLAN scan. remember street view cars register all wlan identification and location in an area, in many/most cases with accuracy down to a meter or so. Try and yogin to gmail with a secured and privacy respecting browser. You will fail…
If you use the possibility of offline encryption offered by applications claws and thunderbird big ugly brother finds it rather difficult to scan the content of your communication.

@Moddit – (glad to see you back here again)- the “less secure apps” part of the link is an (ironic) part of Google’s user’s account manager webpage, that allows google’s mail account to be “usable” from apps not whitelisted by Google- unfortunately my main personal e-mail account is a gmail one, and has been so for about 20 years, so I already had clicked that link before. Still I have not been able to make claws work with my gmail account- but SeaMonkey e-mail client works well with it, even without “allowing less secure apps” (ah ah, once again, Google is ironic on that one) … So it’s a “google”… sorry “good” second choice to users that are stuck with gmail…

I’ve talked about this issue some time ago with the claws mail developer team at IRC, so I can pass on what they told me: It’s all about oauth2 authentification mechanism, which the big players like Google or Yahoo rule on you nowadays.
Unfortunately this oauth mechanism isn’t implemented in Claws below version 18, as I already pointed out as a suggestion for antiX 21 when it was still in beta:
We see still an 3.17.x version of Claws Mail in antiX 21. This is very sad, since it doesn’t work anymore with most email providers, who meanwhile mandatory expect OAUTH procedure for accessing the account via POP/IMAP. This feature has been added in Claws Mail 3.18.0 / 4.0.0 only, so antiX 21 should really ship one of these versions, if possible.
Btw, you can safely use Google mail accounts, if you set up end-to-end encryption with your communication partners. All what these nosy providers can see is „Datensalat” (see attachement) then. This end-to-end encryption as described in my advisory also works flawlessly in thunderbird, and even on your smartphone when using e.g. fairemail by Marcel Bokhorst. So there is no excuse not to make use of end-to-end encryption, when having to rely on google & co. mail accounts for whatever reason. Single thing you can’t do anymore then: read and write these end-to-end encrypted mails on their buggy webmailers (which do outpower to an absurd amount weaker hardware anyway).

Claws Mail version 3.18.0 is in antiX 21 on my system.
Gmail pop-mail is fine with Google “less secure apps” configuration. I use config: Automatically accept valid SSL/TLS certificates as Gmail is constantly sending and demanding acceptance of new ones.

Claws 3.18 is in antix Bullseye has given me no issues in usage, only problem for users is that
config changes in the newer version made removing old files and new setup after update a neccesity. May not apply to everybody!.Will see if the beta 4 from testing will install and run. Nope same as latest Gimp regarding libc6 plus one other for claws.

Many thanks @anticapitalista ! I wasn’t aware you had claws mail upgraded to ver. 18 in final antiX 21, since I still wasn’t able to upgrade the OS, and on antiX 19 Claws is still 3.17.3-2. So this is great news for me! Moreover I should have read more carefully the date of the postings above: they all read 24., but in May, not February, and more than a year ago, except for the last ones. So, @PPC , are you experiencing the problems with google mail accounts (same should be true for yahoo mail) on antiX 21 or on antiX 19? This should make all the difference.

Yahoo pop-mail has a different approach. One has to generate a password for Claws on the Yahoo site. Yahoo pop-mail works well with Claws.
