Can someone tell me how to add ports 587 & 993 to MX’s firewall?

          Not much experience with MX,
presuming it uses IP Tables iptables you might search how to add the rules you need without the gui.
You will need to work with sudo.

This is an old example for g Mail but I think it may still work. Without gmail I can not test and I refuse to use the
          spying application.

          # set policies and flush
          iptables -P INPUT DROP
          iptables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT
          iptables -F

          # allow traffic related to connections we initiated
          iptables -A INPUT -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT

          # allow traffic into loopback interface
          iptables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT

          # possibly, allow some more traffic, e.g. icmp
          # iptables -A INPUT -p icmp -j ACCEPT
          # ...

            Check out the page https://www.circuits.dk/setup-claws-mail-gmail-raspberry/

It appears to contain information on SMTP and IMAP mail configuration.

See also https://www.claws-mail.org/faq/index.php/Using_Claws_Mail_with_Gmail for additional information.

https://riseup.net/en/email/clients/claws is another resource. One of them should be helpful.

@ghf72, it looks like MX uses GUFW as a GUI which means ufw.
              In terminal it would go
              sudo ufw allow 587
              and
              sudo ufw allow out 587
              for outgoing

You should then see the created rules in GUFW

or you can also ask from terminal
              sudo ufw status

For people that use Claws without Oauth2 to access gmail, please read this link: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en

                Most relevant part:
starting May 30, 2022, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password.

Also, if someone has a detailed tutorial on how to setup gmail with claws, using Oauth2, I would aprecialte it… I can’t generate the required token…

                P.

@caprea, is that the equivalent of choosing ‘Both’ for the ‘Direction’ option seen in the screenshot?

hi Caprea, thanks for input on a sometimes confusing subject.,
as far as I am aware UFW and GUFW use backend Ip tables, I did quite a bit of direct configuration on my desktp system.
It seems to work as expected.

Thanks for info PPC, Yet another reason to get a decent non spying E Mail provider. For those I support.
EOS when GMail is involved. There are plenty of either free or cheap i.e. 1 euro a month providers who offer
better service, do not scan every mail and do not sell user data.

@ghf72, yes if you use both commands, it is equivalent I would guess for the “Simple” tab in “Add a firewall rule”.
