I am running Antix-21 with kernel 4.9.0-326-antix.1-amd64-smp. I have a start up script in my .config directory that starts conky immediately after booting up. This works fine. However, if I open my emails using Thunderbird and then close Thunderbird again, it also closes conky. This seems to have started since I did my last system update. The version of Thunderbird is 1:102.5.0-1~deb11u1 and the version of conky is 1:1.9.0-6.
I don’t know where to start looking for the cause of this as I can’t imagine what the link between Thunderbird and conky would be.
Are there any suggestions on why this could be happening or how I would troubleshoot it?

Hi, there was an issue with IceWM and conky in the past.
Perhaps the below post by the mighty and knowledgeable anticapitalista themselves may help:

If not running IceWM, please provide more information about the desktop environment that you use.
Also, verify the conky process is closed using e.g. ‘pgrep conky’.
If it is empty, then conky is closed indeed, else it is only hidden.

sybok, you put your finger on it! Thank you.
pgrep conky came up with the ID assigned to conky. Therefore, I knew it was hidden rather than closed. I didn’t actually know that could happen. So,I have learnt a little.
Following the advice in the post you linked to solved the problem. I think Thunderbird was a red herring. It just happened to be Thunderbird most of the time because of the order I tend to close things down.
