Hi, I was interested in this distribution and checked out the website, upon looking I see “proudly anti-facist”, what the hell does this even mean? What does this have to do with Linux?

The forum is for users of antiX. It is not only about linux.
What’s wrong with being openly anti-fascist?

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

To me, this means you win the prize of the strangest question ever on this forum! 🙂
But I’ll bite: yes, the only real “anti-fascist” thing you”l get in antiX, are, in fact some default bookmarks on firefox-esr… But the main dev, anticapitalista wanted to make a stand, publicizing his world view when he created this Linux Distro- that’s his prerogative. You do not have to share his world view to use antiX or this forum, nothing is imposed on you. Yeah, you could get worse things, Like Hannah Montana Linux (I kid you not, it was a real thing)…
The names of each version of the distro are names of, for some reason or another, figures anticapitalista deems important.

kosherdaddy, If you argue with him and say you are pro-facist, you would be pretty foolish. I really do hope no pro-facist comes here. I wish people could just treat others well.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth.

Enjoy the distro… You certainly get a lot of effort from a lot of us (especially anticapitalista) for however much or little you donated to the cause.

And I would add that there is nothing hidden here. The forum is simply the user help system for antiX Linux.
Use the download link a the top of the site to pick a download mirror, if you want to use the distro.

Everyone is welcome here at the forum, so long as they treat the other people with respect.
Hopefully you will find it a pleasant experience.

What does it have to do with Linux?

You can name releases of Linux-distributions in a spirit similar to Ubuntu using catchy/funny names such as ‘Proud Peacock’ (or whatever combination they choose).
You can name them as anticapitalista does, which may help reminding us that there (still) is an ongoing struggle for freedom, democracy, justice and human rights.
To make this reminder even less subtle, you mention it into the page motto.

And what does it have to do with Linux?

Linux is often regarded as being about choice (from myriad of alternatives) and freedom (to alter/customize them to your liking within the boundaries allowed by licenses).
These alternatives are based on work of many people, often hidden from the “sight/knowledge” of users.
You may (or may not) say the same is true about the freedom, democracy, justice and human rights.
Thus it serves as a reminder that free things are not truly for free without any preexisting costs/efforts, they are built on work/sacrifices of those who dedicated (parts of) their lives to these goals… for us to have the freedom and be able to appreciate it deeper.
I guess it’s worth to be reminded of that not to forget about it.

Basically it is just about druthers.

Like me liking honey with my morning raspberry tea.

Not everything in Linux is linux related. Ever look up kernel names?

                    https://handwiki.org/wiki/List_of_Linux_kernel_names

We are also a pretty loosey group here who is pretty tolerant of new members. Kinda surprised at the ” what does that even mean ” comment.
Like you missed the point or something. It made you comment and start a thread though.

I don’t over think the politics of my wrenches in my motorcycle shop either. I just use them.

Leaving you with some other non linux related stuff. Happy Trails.

In my case I have zero tolerance or support for white supremacists, or Faschists.
                      or whatever equivalents call themselves.

One of the main reasons I am here supporting antiX with both time and other donations
is the statement and political direction of anticapitalista.
