::The problem lies with Conky.
Probably the version of .conkyrc shipped with 19.4. Unfortunately, I no longer have this available.In the upper part of TEXT is missing or does not read the variables on
own_window_type normalHow many times have I stressed that showing the configuration file(s) is the solution. Instead, people here prefer to waste their time. Makes me wonder where the order of a Brain_Masinick is here.

::It is NOT a conky issue.
own_window_type normalor
own_window_type desktopboth crash with latest IceWM 3 series and zzzFM desktop (on antiX19 and antiX-21 series).

::It does not appear to be a conky issue because my antiX 19 and antix 21 have the exact same configuration in .conkyrc:
# Create own window instead of using desktop (required in nautilus, pcmanfm and rox desktops) own_window yes own_window_transparent yes own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar own_window_type desktopOctober 11, 2022 at 4:02 pm #90584Anonymous
::Thanks for pointing out antiX21.
I still have there
own_window_type overridein the offer. So the conky window is not under control of the window manager.
So, is the problem with the zzz invention, because the other icewm’s don’t have the problem.

::Does trying to increasing the startup delay under desktop-session.conf help? It sounds like zzzfm-desktop is starting after conky is loaded when it needs to be before.

::I had it wrong. Conky isn’t reacting to VeraCrypt. There have been a couple of times when it seemed to be reacting to Connman initializing. I think what’s really happening is a delay unrelated to whichever other programs are running. It seems more related to duration.
I should also mention that installing the wxWidget stuff didn’t help. No change in behavior.
I’ve noticed that the display of the desktop is quite sluggish. I have the impression that IceWM v3.0 is having trouble either finding or registering desktop items. For example, when VeraCrypt starts up, it displays a white box, then after 5-10(?) seconds it displays the box contents. That is NOT normal behavior. When I’ve got the external partitions mounted as drives, and force a refresh of the desktop (selecting space-IceWM again) to make the launchers usable, there’s a substantial delay before it can find & display the launchers which should be there. That also is NOT normal behavior.
I had a new problem tonight, and I suspect it’s also connected with the IceWM v3.0:
I closed the laptop’s lid, and walked away for 5 minutes. When I came back and opened the lid, the mouse pointer was stuck in the middle of the screen, and unresponsive to the trackball’s ball or buttons. I closed the lid momentarily, and opened it back up – and the mouse pointer was simply GONE. Shutting & opening the lid after that, made no change.Nothing I did seemed to have any effect – until I managed to shut down the laptop completely, using the keyboard. When I booted it back up, the mouse seemed normal again. But, I haven’t tried closing the lid again, to see if it will repeat the freezing up.
I need some help, with instruction on how to roll back IceWM to the v2.9.9 copy.
Thanks in advance, for any assistance you can give me.October 15, 2022 at 9:35 am #90748Forum Admin

Thank you anticapitalista! I made use of the solution, and now Conky isn’t disappearing off the desktop. Responsiveness of the system is still sluggish, as if it’s having a hard time finding or making use of things, but at least Conky’s remaining visible. This was MUCH easier than setting up a new antiX v21 OS!
For the sake of anyone else facing this problem, I’m going to repeat anticapitalista’s solution here:
——————–
1) Add “Conky.Conky.layer: 1” to the end of /home/your_username/.icewm/winoptions.
2) Change “own_window_type desktop” to become “own_window_type normal” in /home/your_username/.conkyrc.
3) Logout, and login.
——————-
Note: Make backup copies of the files before you edit them. (I just tack on “_bkp” at the end of the backup copy’s filename, to indicate the nature of the file.) Also, don’t include the quotation marks.Also note: The forum’s javascript won’t let me modify the title of the initial post, so if any kind moderator could attend to it, please add “SOLVED” to this thread’s initial post’s title.
