Connman issue

hello, maybe someone can help me with this issue:
I see my WIFI via connman, enter the password and then receive the message:
agent request failed before the response received

I’ve seen occasional setup and connection issues. I’ve never successfully determined the root cause.

My workaround has been to exit and restart Connman or alternate back and forth between Ceni and Connman.

I’ve also had success simply with a reboot because I don’t actually run into the issue very often.

Please provide us with an information report from inxi -Fxz

Copy and paste the output from a terminal or the PC Information report.

Sounds like something I often run in to. Doing my best to ensure nobody else is online on my or users router
and Getting right next to it usually allows a connect, once the initial connect is accepted network is fine.

Most areas have crazy wifi density and often extremely high signal strenths which wash out negotiation with
other routers.

Yeah, the other possibility is computational speed and peripheral support speed.
The Dell Latitude D series has been an excellent system with Linux systems over the years, but as the D610 ages and the requirements of the environment around it increase, even a really solid laptop like this one falls to the forces around it.

Virtually all of the issue I have encountered have been with my oldest systems. The only other issues I encounter are when the physical network around me is malfunctioning; I’ve seen that more than once as our site administration experiments with new and different solutions. They *think* they’re not affecting anything, but I can usually tell when something is going on because “unexplained” circumstances arise. Don’t eliminate that possibility either. A lot of times either the provider, the community, or something in close proximity to our environments affects us. That’s when we “scratch our heads” attempting to explain it when we have no real answers. I’ve seen it countless times during my lifetime; a few times I’ve been involved in investigative work that has eventually uncovered exactly what took place and it’s not always what we originally think!

However, because this wonderful system is pretty old, it’s sometimes unable to keep up with the signals it’s receiving, and that is a reasonable explanation (though not a 100% certain answer) for what you’re seeing.

As “partial evidence”, the only time I have networking issues with my relatively new HP-14 laptop is when external forces are at work; otherwise Connman, Ceni, network manager and whatever other tools are used with various distributions, they all work flawlessly.

I wish I could provide a 100% certain solution, but the information I’ve provided, while not definitive, is plausible.

there was an older mint edition on this machine before and WIFI worked fine.

Difficulty mapping the ports could be one of two things: support that is fading for this once great hardware line, or a hint of hardware that’s starting to fail.

Do you still have the media for that old release of Mint? If so, give it a try again. Like old releases of anything, it’s going to be out of support, and using it for any important tasks is unwise, but to “see if it works” or not may be a worthwhile experiment, and it may provide additional data and use case scenarios.

Similarly, old versions of antiX are not going to provide proper updates but they may also give some hints, especially if they, and old versions of Mint actually “work”, at least in the physical sense.
