Title: Need help with WiFi connectivity issue on antiX 22

      Message:

      Hello everyone,

I’m having trouble connecting to my WiFi network on antiX 22. Every time I try to connect, I get an error message that says “Agent request Failed: Theagen request failed before a reply was returned.” When I dismiss this message, I see another error that says “Connman Error: Conman returned the following error: invalid-key. Would you like to retry?”

I’m certain that I’m entering the correct password for my network, I’m able to connect to my phone’s hotspot without any issues. I made sure all the drivers are up to date, such as system.

I’m also concerned about some changes I made in the Control Center under Maintenance > NetworkAssistant > Linux Drivers. I allowed all the blocked listed drivers/files, but I’m not sure if this was the right thing to do, or if it could cause any problems.

PS: If anyone was able to connect a Logitech Keys Mini (bluetooth keyboard) please let me know.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

      Here’s my system information:

        Hello OnlineTurtle.

Welcome to antiX Linux and the Forum.

I don’t know how to write in English and send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything. If your native language is not English, please translate my original Portuguese language text in Brazil directly into your language with the help of internet translators that you will get a much better result.

Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you read these excellent tutorials created by @PPC:

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
        How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.

When I started using Antix, I read the tutorials that the PPC created, these readings spared me a lot of my time and I think it saves the time of any new Antix user. Your time will not be lost with these readings, it will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You will not waste your time with internet searches or even create new topics, on the contrary, you will earn a lot of time from these readings. I recommend you try the work areas that have “ZZZ” in your name. I usually use the “ZZZ-Icewm” or “ZZZ-JWM” or “ZZZ-Fluxbox” (each of these work areas have their own characteristics and consume more or less resources). ZZZFM will be the default file manager in your desktop, it is very similar to other file managers from other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access the other Antix work areas, click the Antix menu (or right -click), desktop, switch between desktops and click on the work area name, instantly to desktop will be loaded.

In the Portuguese language area of this forum, there are several tutorials that may be useful for you . Use an automatic translator from the internet so you can understand the text.

Whenever you need to request technical help or support in this forum, explain in detail what is happening, do not save the words, be thorough when writing, enter the characteristics of your computer, such as the brand and the model. If possible, post the result of the command $ Inxi -zv7 of the terminal, copy and paste here in the message of the topic you create in this forum.

When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option “Notify Me of Follow-Up Replies via email”, marking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are answers from topic in question.

I’m also concerned about some changes I made in the Control Center under Maintenance > NetworkAssistant > Linux Drivers. I allowed all the blocked listed drivers/files

This was indeed not a well-considered decision.Your wifi card is a Broadcom BCM43142 chip-ID: 14e4:4365 and should use broadcom-sta (wl)
Try this.In Network Assistant enable the driver wl and block the others.Might reboot.

              Hello everyone,

Firstly I would like to thank you for your replay, you taking your time to help means a lot!

              Second:

              Solved:

I’m excited to share that I’ve managed to resolve my WiFi connectivity issue on antiX 22. I am not quite sure what the exact problem is but I figure that my wireless network has a separate password for the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands. My other laptop and phone are succesfully connected to the 5GHz band with a different password than the one I was trying to use on my antiX 22 system. After entering the correct password for the 2.4GHz band with my antiX laptop, I was able to connect using the default network manager in antiX 22.

Again i never had this problem before and i still don’t understand it,but i am happily connected atm.

Regarding the Bluetooth issue I mentioned earlier, I discovered that I need a Logi Bolt USB receiver for my wireless keyboard Logitech MX Keys to function properly on Linux AntiX 22. I plan to purchase the USB receiver tomorrow, which should resolve the Bluetooth problem.

              Unsolved:

As for the blocked drivers that I approved in the Control Center, I’m still unsure how to revert those settings to their defaults. If anyone has any advice on how to do this, I would appreciate your input.

Once again, thank you all for your help and support during my troubleshooting process. Your guidance was invaluable.

              Best regards,

                https://linuxize.com/post/modprobe-command-in-linux/

If you want to prevent a Kernel module from loading at boot time, create a .conf file with any name inside the /etc/modprobe.d. The syntax is:

                /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
                blacklist module_name

                #############################################################

                Edit:

You can make that via antiX control center also.

                  Hi OnlineTurtle,

wireless keyboard Logitech MX Keys … I need a Logi Bolt USB receiver … I plan to purchase the USB receiver tomorrow

                  Allow me just some remarks.

1.) You need to make sure which type of MX Keys you own. There is a business series and a default one for this very keyboard. Logibolt will only work in Business series, the default series expects a Logitech unified receiver. Turn it on top and only if you see a „bolt” logo you can use the „bolt receiver”, otherwise you need to purchase the „unified receiver” instead, which looks pretty much the same. See bolt wireless technology for details and scroll down to FAQ section.

2.) You’ll notice Logitech is one of the most goofy companies not caring for any Linux OS support. Neither their basic driver setup for the receiver nor their „options” software will run on any Linux (See their own homepage for confirmation). So basically it is at least questionable to use their recent products on antiX. This goes for their mice as well as for their keyboards.
But: There is a workaround. Some Logitech people have provided the Linux community with pieces of internal logitech documents, on which base some replacement was programmed. Be aware it will not work completely perfect and will have some issues, but it is fit generally for everyday usage anyway.

For both you’ll need to observe the following steps:

Open a terminal window (e.g.: Roxterm). Then key in:

                  sudo apt-get update
                  sudo apt-get install solaar barrier

solaar is the part that provides the basic driver setup for the receiver and the pairing. See Solaar site for details.
barrier is the part that provides the „flow” software functionallity, allowing for sharing the keyboard, mouse and clipboard among multiple PCs in your network seamlessly.

While it is a bit tricky to set up the receiver with solaar (you need to follow precisely the workflow of plugging in the proper moment, and observing the timing scheme for power on and pressing the asked keys on your devices to get them paired while solaar is waiting for it) it will work perfectly stable once set up. There is a console mode available, but on antiX it works perfectly fine in it’s GUI mode, you’ll find it in the antiX main Menu → Utilities section. You’ll only have to use the console mode of solaar if the GUI mode fails, to get more detailed info about the reason.

                  Solaar on antiX 23
                  (Image: Solaar on antiX 23)

The other thing is barrier, which works generally OK, but has some issues with localisation. It will reset your language on the slaves to en_US, providing you with a completely wrong keyboard layout for some strange reason as long you are working on the slave (it will restore the proper keyboard layout as soon you type again on the native keyboard of the very PC). But the setup of barrier is pretty easy and works fine (apart from the localisation issue). You’ll also notice there is a shortcomming with the clipboard functionallity: you can only transport plain text elements. Images or other file types in clipboard won’t work. Also you’ll notice you can’t drag and drop text snippets or files directly from one PC to the other as you can in the MacOS and Windows versions of this software.

                  Hope this helps.

                    Thanks Robin,
Recent local experience is Logitech also seems to have perfected failing
not long after end of warranty.

Keyboard and mouse with unified receiver and three different wireless mice all failed
with 3 years in service, less than 3.5 . Was told get a new reciever, made no difference.
                    Expensive experience.

My money goes elswhere. Tecknet Mouse and Aukey mechanical Keyboards. Keyboards are wired
but so put that first, Value exceptional.

                      Shocked to read this.
I had decided for this equipment half a year ago for a single reason: Long term reliability. My former mouse was also a logitech, dating from around 1992, three buttons with a cable and plug for true serial port and a rubber ball. This very mouse is still in everyday use here today and has never failed in all the years (while all the other brands optical and scroll wheel mice I purchased later are gone long ago after max. 2 years of usage from unrecoverable cable break or electronic parts outage). More than 30 years, and still perfectly reliable. This made me believe they know something about proper construction of equipment. Well, I’ll see what happens to their recent products soon after the guarantee period ends… many thanks for the warning.

Btw, did you ever happen to find a proper pdf manual for their recent devices, covering complete usage information or to find a printed one in the package? Their webpage they ask you to find the answers is a pure chaos, and it takes hours to find some specific piece of urgently needed information. Seems they have built the site for smartphones rather than for desktop PC usage. And seems you can’t store the information locally, so you will loose it once they decide to remove all the needed info stuff from their site some years later. This is actually not what I’d expect from this not really cheap equipment.

If I’ll happen to have to share your experience shortly after warranty is over, this will be the last logitech product I’ve purchased.

I managed to put the drivers back on the blacklist, I just retyped the blacklisted drivers similar to those shown in your blacklist. They are no back on.

Thank you so much for your help!

                          Hey Robin,

Thank you for your in-depth information, much appreciated!

The Linux support indeed is almost non-existing, I had a chat yesterday for 30 min were the Logitech-tech support put me in “phase 2 of serious problems” to only get to hear 20 min later that I have to contact antiX OS for useful help.

Regarding the compatibility: I just checked my MX KEYS MINI and it cleary shows a: sort of Thunder bolt. Also I have checked the Logitech website to see if the Logi Bolt Receiver is compatible with the MX KEYS MINI and it turns out it is. Solaar was already installed, and last night I installed Solaar Barrier on your advice.

However, I am also using the Logitech MX ANYWHERE 3, that mouse runs on the: USB UNIFYING RECEIVER. My concern is that Solaar isn’t able to run both the UNIFYING and the BOLT receiver at the same time.

And for last, I just want a quick rant complaining about the different receivers, the Logitech series for both the keyboard and mouse says MX, wouldn’t it be logical to make 1 receiver for all the MX product types of Logitech? And ordering the product on the Logitech website, took me 30 min with account creation. Logitech really needs to modernize on certain aspects in my humble opinion.

Anyway thank you very much for your response!

Hi Robin, can have a look at the logitech site this evening.

I also have Logitech a mouse from Atari ST times,
black rubber ball inside. That still works fine as does an
Atari Mouse. Bought in 1985 I think.

Mechanical Keyboard for 23,99 on amazon, Blooth
Mechanische Gaming Tastatur, QWERTZ Tastatur (German Layout) mit
Blaue Schalter für PC Gamer und Arbeits, 105 Tasten Kabelgebundene Tastatur,
                            ABS-Tastaturabdeckung und Stahlgehäuse, 6 LED-Farbmodi

Absolute Bargain. If you do not mind clicky keys.

Under a sticker real name name shows its from Aukey. Been using one several years
without it getting tired. If it does I will replace any failing switch.
