I have been playing around with connectshares on several antiX boxes today. It is working very well on all my antiX systems back to version 16. But I can’t get it to work on the Core version of antiX-19.2 where I only have the console (no X). I used the cli-aptiX package manager to install the connectshares-antix and smbclient packages. But it won’t launch.
When I type the command
sudo connectshares-config.shand then enter my password, I see something quickly come on the terminal and then it disappears.
I don’t know how to scroll back to look when at the console. (I am used to being able to scroll back in a virtual terminal when in the standard Full version with IceWM, but I’m still trying to figure out how to do this in the console). Maybe it’s trying to load but I can’t read anything at the terminal.
Is connectshares supported in the Core version? If it is, what do I need besides the two packages that I already installed to make it work? If not, I will have to settle for modifying the /etc/fstab file.
Thanks for any tips you can share.

::I don’t have any spare capacity to investigate at present. Try the following which should get you going with Connectshares in a console (no-X) environment.
Configure Connectshares
As a standard unprivileged user, in your preferred console text editor
• edit ~/.config/connectshares/connectshares.conf, input the details exactly as you would via connectshares-config
• save the edited file and close the text editorRun Connectshares
• sudo connectshares.shDecember 27, 2020 at 10:21 pm #48221Memberseaken64
::Thank you SamK.
I don’t have the ~/.config/connectshares/connectshares.confile after the installation. I figured it would be installed there but there is no connectshares folder under ~/.config. I will try copying it over from another computer and then edit it.
Maybe I have some kind of permissions issue that prevented the .conf file from being placed in my home folder. And I think I figured out how to scroll back the terminal screen using Shift-pageup. I’ll try it again.

::I copied the .conf file from another machine and pasted it into ~/.config/connectshares/connectshares.conf.
Then I edited it with my usual entries and saved it.
Then I ransudo connectshares.shThe terminal showed a report but then cleared. I cannot scroll the terminal to see the message. I found out I could just repeat the command several times until I could finally write down the entire message.
Here’s the message:
/usr/local/bin/connectshares.sh: 236: /usr/local/bin/connectshares.sh: dialog: not foundThen I’m back to the command line prompt.
I’ve tried re-installing. Maybe I’m missing something in the Core version that is included in the GUI versions. It works on all systems where I have the X server and GUI running. Only on this “no X” console version do I have the issue.

::Off topic: How do I look back at the terminal output once it clears? I tried Shift-PageUp. Nothing. Maybe I need to install something as a service for this to work? Or maybe there is a “log” that captures the terminal output? (This is a Core setup with no X installed).

::/usr/local/bin/connectshares.sh: 236: /usr/local/bin/connectshares.sh: dialog: not foundThat is telling you there is a missing dependency.
Install dialog.December 28, 2020 at 5:03 am #48247Memberseaken64
::Thank you. Yes, I installed “dialog” and it now works. I guess “dialog” is not included with Core by default.
