Tagged: Connectshares
I recently started playing with antiX-21 32bit on my old EeePCs.
When I tried to mount SMB shares I experienced a strange behavior. There was no issue with findshares in finding SMB shares on my servers, but connectshares mounting the shares kept failing. The conf file looked fine, and I was using a sudoer account.
Having confirmed that manual moutings did work with the same shares, I found that the password length limitation on the CUI Dialog was the problem – which only accepts upto 10 chars for the username and the password respectively.
I gave 2 modifications to the connectshares.sh as below.
===== [/usr/local/bin/connectshares.sh]
271 – “Username :” 1 1 “” 1 20 10 0 0 \
271 + “Username :” 1 1 “” 1 20 20 0 0 \
272 – “Password :” 2 1 “” 2 20 10 0 1 \
272 + “Password :” 2 1 “” 2 20 20 0 1 \
=====
Now everything has started working flawlessly.
I hope it would be of help to someone else too!

Thank you for this discovery. I am just a user and used to use Connectshares in the past, now I am using Fstab. My userid and password for SMB shares were below 10 characters, so I did not notice this problem.
It is good to know about such limitation and a solution you provided…
Regards…
