Could people post the output of ls -la /etc/service/

And, remove all (if they exist) down files in /etc/sv/*/

Also use runit-services-manager.sh to remove all services that you do not use/need (Probably most of them).

      – see Xecure’s post above

Finally, are you using slimski or slim login manager, connman or something else.

      Thanks

Please note that this – coupled with Xecure’s explanation, should eliminate any problems with runit services; most people need very few, if any, services active; get rid of most of them.

Could people post the output of ls -la /etc/service/

The forum blocks me when trying to paste the terminal output, so hopefully the .txt file attached is enough.

I have the slimski and connman services, and have created the runsvdir-pc for managing user services. All others are almost the same as the original antiX services. acpi-support is the custom service I shared previously. I need elogind for some programs, so I haven’t replaced it for seatd on this system (but disabled the powerbutton handles for elogind).

After installing the antiX 21-runit final release, sudo and acpi-support were active because I didn’t pay attention to removing these services during installation in the installer. I usually install, reboot and then remove the services I don’t need (like cups and saned until I need them) with runit-service-manager, intead of managing them during the installation process.

          Runit Antix21 – 64 bit – 5.10 kernel – slimsik – Ceni has configured my wlan
(I used connman on the live system before installing, but that didn’t work on the installed system)

I removed acpi-support and sudo services, but I’m hesitating to remove others before I learn what they are doing. I also don’t know how to reinstall them if removing them provess harmful or inconvenient. E.g. cups and saned seem like necessary. Is just disabling them not enough?

Thank you Xecure for figuring this out and providing details. I do not use gazelle installer so I am not affected but I am looking forward to resolution of all these troubles some people have. Understandably this my note does not contribute anything to resolution,

It does though confirm that all of your previous posts insisting that antiX runit stable edition has no issues were, at best, irritating, misleading.

another poster did not help matters with his opinionated non factual support.

Reports of issues were all based on installation with the new installer. The only way to rule out other influence.

                *bump* to get more feedback.

Xecure is right that the constant disk activity is after installation and is related to 2 services being supervised even though they don’t have any run files ie acpi-support and sudo.

This should be fixed in the next update of the installer and installer-data debs.

For those users still running installed runit version(s) and still experiencing the constant disk activity, simply use runit-services-manager to remove acpi-support and sudo.

Removing acpi-support and sudo in runit-services-manager solved the issue for me as well.

                          Hi,
I was wondering if that fix to the antiX installer is in the repos yet. The latest antiX installer that I see is version 1.6.6?

The reason that I ask is that I have been using the antiX21 runit on a 4-core system now. Its performance is noticeably faster than on the 2-core system that I had been using to test the alpha and beta runit versions. I am actually liking runit over the very solid sysvinit antiX 21 system. I did an iso snapshot of my runit system and want to install it on other computers. I could use Xecure’s runit-service-manager.sh script to turn off the services that get enabled by the older antiX installers. But I also wanted to see if the newer antiX installers would solve this problem. Thanks.

I’m on antiX 21 runit right now, and I checked the I/O activity using the command
                            sudo iotop -o

(I did have to install iotop before issuing the command). I see a moderate amount of disk activity. It doesn’t appear to interrupt or impede anything I am doing, but some people may object to it. If so, as discussed many times, you can always stop some, or even several, of the runit services responsible for the activity creating checks and logs.

I haven’t and I’m content with it as is.

Mine shows 1.6.8. So two updates after 1.6.6.
However my antiX 21 Runit never had this disk I/O issue. Probably because I am running antiX as Live USB, Live instaled to HD and Frugal, so I never used this installer.
My idle disk activity is zero.

I wanted to say that I am using antiX21 runit more than the antiX21 sysvinit system. The anti21 runit system is very solid. I have tested it on an HP probook 6550b and HP probook 650 G2. I was hesistant at first because of all the disk I/O activity. But after disabling those services, the antiX21 runit system is very robust after constant use for 3 weeks. And I will be happy to test any future versions.
Thank you to all who have helped to develop this system.

I also have this annoying disk activity in antiX-runit.

This is an installation in QEMU from January 25, 2022 and I can NOT confirm everything that has been said so far by the advocates of the “pure antiX lesson”.

Neither disabling all possible services; uninstalling unnecessary services; installing other kernels; having the latest antix-installer package; nor ignoring this damn stupid addendum have changed anything about this situation.

I installed the dstat package to try to track down the culprit. Either, I haven’t understood its operation properly yet, in any case it shows once Conky as the culprit and after its killall it is roxterm. Hey ?

I can confirm what anticapitalista says, with removing the acpi -and sudo service is peace. Unfortunately the new antix-installer does not do that.

But I’m no longer upset, just like this error (in fluxbox) that uninstalled applications appear as if by magic again in the menu, although you have also removed them manually (seamonkey).
