      Hello

My old Pentium 4 PC first HDD (IDE) with 512M RAM was dead. It was dual boot Windows XP and antiX 386.

My second HDD (IDE) with NTFS data partition. It was stored mostly video files, MPG file format.

I am trying to copy these video files from desktop PC to USB flash device under antiX-Live-UBS. If I run under antiX-Live-USB, and copy from HDD to another flash USB drive, the larger file will give Input/Output error and incomplete process. It is under zzzFM.

At one time, I should not have copied several files at once, and this process made the antiX-Live-UBS became Read-only flash drive when it hung. Also corrupted the data flash drive under Rox-Filer copying process. The flash USB device became useless.

Now, I am running under Live-CD antix-21 32-bit Libre Respin, and copying the larger file about 1GB one by one. There is no problem and process is slow because transferring to new PC, open and check it through USB flash drive.

Please advise if there is an alternative way to do it. Thank you in advance.

Fastest way to copy files is to use rsync or Grsync, which is graphical application for rsync.

          Hi RJP

          Thank you for your advice.

The only hardware with me is 4G LTE Router which is not in use now. I do not have Wi-Fi network. I rely on my smartphone mobile data to access internet. To connect two PC, the only option is network cable by using local to local on eth. Never use and learn Linux networking. I will find out and watch dolphin_oracle you-tube video.

To save the trouble, layman method plug and unplug flash UBS. Thanks.

Please be carefully. This points to a hardware (USB-stick-controller or USB memory chip) issue. I have seen this several times shortly before an usb stick turned unresponsive completely. You might easily loose all your data stored on it.

Check your dmesg output for USB related i/o errors. If these happen frequently, don’t trust the stick any longer.

The other transfer path via LAN is pretty easy. All you need to do is to setup a samba server on one of the PC’s, then you can use the antiX tool „Connectshares” on the other one to mount the samba share(s) for fast and easy file transfer within zzzFM. There are many threads here in the forum already where the details are explained. (Additional hint: When the second PC happens to run on Windows, you can access it’s shared folders with „Connectshares” without any need of a samba server).

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

Having seen the error you report several times, and found sticks were not what was claimed on the package.
Please test your USB stick. F3 Tools are available in repos. Instructions @

Note the test will destroy any data on the stick.

I highly recommend to buy only good brands with at least 5 year warranty from a dealer with decent returns policy,
where I live sold by amazon is a good option. Test all USB sticks before usage. Goes for SSD too.

Fakes and trash abound on amazon these days, if you get a bad device put a big sticker on it, defective, and return.

For Transcend USB sticks an online repair tool is available, it updates controller software. Sadly windoze only.
SSD controller software updates may also be available from reputable manufacturers.

Please be aware, Samsung fix may leave you with a damaged device of reduced capacity.
Seen recently. I do not buy anything again from that company.
