Do you have to boot the a live usb system to create persistence, or can you just put it directly on the USB before starting the system?
In particular, I’m looking at these instructions. Can you do this with antiX, or should you just create it in the boot menu?

::You’ve got save changes while running the installer to save live session changes. This during a typical hard drive install.
As far as I know. Persistence is set up during the live grub choices in the menu.
So no. I guess doing it after a live session install on usb drive is the route you have to take. Probably easier than following the debian instructions.
Because 2 usb drives are needed then. One to run live to set up persistence on another usb drive. I don’t run persistent usb except on one broken touch screen laptop where the hard drive harness is fubar. That laptop runs slower now than if I had good hard drive connector.

::What problem are you trying to solve?
I can imagine a classroom where configuring a bunch of antiX USB drives for persistence would be arduous. So configuring one then duplicate using dd or clonezilla would reduce the effort. Provide more details and we may be able to provide suggestions.

::Why would you want to look at Debian instructions while antiX has way more advanced architecture for Live persistence?
When you boot just look at F5 persistence choices to your liking…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

::Building on what olzstyn wrote: If you want to run antiX live from the usb stick with persistence, then DO NOT do persistence the Debian way.
Do it the antiX way, as shown here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq0mRZh2hiY&t=2sIt depends on the method of creation of the stick (not making it read-only), and the instructions are very easy. dolphin_oracle made this GREAT video that explains it perfectly. 🙂
