      Hi
I am a new user who has tried Linux a few times but always found comand line hard.
Anyway I have a chromebox I wanted to run than viewer to control my dad’s firestick as he is 87.

I have spent a lot of time reading (lots of headaches) and it seemed Crouton and ubuntu would serve my purpose. Meaning I could slowly become familiar with Linux.
I found these forums in a Google search and it seems at least one guy had done what I am trying to. But when I created a login I lost that post….so decided to say hello and start a new thread.

Simply put I installed crouton onto my chromebox. I installed ubuntu and teamviewer and I was able to see it would all work……BUT after Rebooting the Chrome box only boots up in chrome os (I thought I was installing dual boot) but more reading seems to indicate ubuntu is running inside Chrome OS.
Either way I can’t start ubuntu again…it seems to have gone.

      Any suggestions

      Thanks in advance.

Hi, Ukracer – sorry, but my advice would be to ask questions like your’s in a Chromebox/ChromeOS related forum/ wiki pages… Maybe some user here can answer your question… but you probably would have better luck on a forum really dedicated to the Operating System you are using…

One side note, one most Linux OS’s you do not have to use the terminal unless you really want to, or you have to do some out of the ordinary configuration task or are fixing something that you can’t easily fix using a GUI…

Some good starting points: https://chromeos.fandom.com/wiki/Crouton and https://www.wikihow.com/Install-Crouton-on-Your-Chromebook
If you manage to correctly install and run a Linux OS on your device, AND antix can be used on it, I highly advise you to use antiX, since it’s much lighter on system resources than Ubuntu- but I’m not sure if antiX (or even Ubuntu) can be used for what want to…

        Good luck,
        P.

I think an Ubuntu forum would be a good place for these questions.

This is the antiX forum. It doesn’t sound like you are installing or running antiX. You are still welcome to search here and see if you can find solutions or hints, but what works for antiX may not work for Ubuntu.
