All my desktop environments just broke on me and I don’t know why. I started having problems when I installed XFCE; no other DE I use would work, fixed that by reinstalling stuff. Now after messing around a while longer using Transmission, messing with Wine, normal stuff… I restart and now Icewm is the only one working but I see only run, settings, and logout. XFCE will not start.

See if doing a Ctrl+Alt+t brings up a terminal.

Do a screenshot of what is in the ~/.icewm directory, and run inxi -Fxz, and printenv so we can try to see what is going on.

        ls -l ~/.icewm
        inxi -Fxz
        printenv

btw, antixcc.sh would bring up the control centre where you could add a new user id, and my bet is the files would get copied from /etc/skel/.icewm correctly for the new user.

We don’t really know what you did, or what the current status is. If all else fails, could you either reinstall or restore?

I’m seriously about to switch to Mint lol. New setup, no backups and I don’t think we have restorepoints here XD

In one of your images the menu is gone (0 bytes). Copy back the default menu from skel
            cp /etc/skel/.icewm/menu $HOME/.icewm/menu

Also, did you switch the Display Manager from slim to lightdm?

Creating a new user worked for me. It definitely seems like something in me user data (thankfully). XFCE launches and everything! It would be hard to show you a screenshot of what Xf was doing since I couldn’t even login with it. I’ll try copying the menu next time I restart, thanks :).

Yes, Xecure, that was what I thought, too. What is odd is that the file still exists, but no longer has the menu in it.

JChamp93, Yes I agree. You learned for a very small price that if this was your live system you might easily have made a mess of it and would have wanted to make a system backup first before installing a different desktop environment over top of antiX’s.

It looks like someone changed the menu file, but I don’t know who or why. Linux Mint is probably a better suited system for some users.

                        Hello JChamp93,

I don’t know how to write in English and I send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything.

I’m seriously about to switch to Mint lol. New setup, no backups and I don’t think we have restorepoints here XD

If you don’t have the patience to understand what caused the problem and try to fix it, the same could happen in another GNU/Linux distribution and will you have to switch distributions again?

The first image shows that your menu file has 0 (zero) bytes, and it should have about 4100 bytes similar to the other files menu-numix-bevel, menu-numix-square and menu-papirus.

You will need to copy the file intact to this one, which must be empty (or without any text), for that open the terminal, as BobC taught you. Type spacefm and press Enter.

The SpaceFM window will open, as I’m not sure the file in your /etc/skel/.icewm folder is still original and without any changes, I’ll direct you to access the /usr/share/antiX/localisation folder /en/icewm with SpaceFM. If your language is not English, access the folder that has the acronym that identifies your language and then enter the icewm folder.

From the /usr/share/antiX/localisation/en/icewm folder (or in another folder for your language), right-click on the file menu, left-click on the Copy option.

Access your home folder, the path will be /home/josh, in the SpaceFM menu click View, Panel 1 View, Hidden Files, be careful not to delete or mistakenly move files and folders that have a dot (.) in them beginning of the name.

Now access the .icewm folder, the full path is /home/josh/.icewm, in the white area, under the files, right-click, left-click on the Paste option. A message will pop up to let you know that a file with the same name already exists, click the Replace button in the warning window.

Now check if the IceWM menu reappears, if not, press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to exit the session and go to slim, access your username and password and check if the IceWM menu reappears .

I’m seriously about to switch to Mint lol. New setup, no backups and I don’t think we have restorepoints here XD
