After reading this article, I’m passing this along wondering if it could affect AntiX and if AntiX may wish to package them separately, seeing that they’ll remain in upstream X.org?

Ok. I responded before reading your link. Since I own a IBM T23 laptop effected by this. By the way. I was effected by this long ago. Savage graphics.
Everyone using this distro came to my rescue with Vesa support. I found this out back in in AntiX 14 or so.
I did not need the savage driver any more.
Edit: I just love this part.
It might have just happened!
That is antis response to configuring new kernels for older gear support. Back in 2015.
