Hello everyone. I recently installed antiX on a Dell Inspiron 3800.

      The System Specs
      700MHz Pentium III
      128MB PC100 RAM
10GB PATA 5400rpm Hard Disk Drive

I found a really nice guide that was posted in 2000 by James F. Carter. This guide was very helpful in setting up the sound and the GPU.

A link on the Debian Wiki was helpful for sound.

The only issue with this wiki is that the file alsa-firmware-1.0.25.tar.bz2 is not available on the ftp server listed in the installation steps.
I was able to find this file HERE and completed the guide with successful results.

The guide by James F. Carter helped me to configure my xorg.conf however I had to remove a few lines because I have an 800×600 panel.

My Xorg configuration is as follows,

      Section “Monitor”
      Identifier “Dell I-3800”
      VendorName “Dell”
      ModelName “I-3800”
      EndSection
      Section “Device”
      Identifier “ATI-RAGE”
      VendorName “ATI”
      BoardName “RAGE-Mobility”
      Option “power_saver”
      EndSection
      Section “Screen”
      Driver “accel”
      Device “ATI-RAGE”
      Monitor “Dell I-3800”
      # Choose your preferred default color depth: 8, 16 or 24.
      DefaultColorDepth 24
      Subsection “Display”
      Depth 8
      Modes “800×600”
      ViewPort 0 0
      EndSubsection
      Subsection “Display”
      Depth 16
      Modes “800×600”
      ViewPort 0 0
      EndSubsection
      Subsection “Display”
      Depth 24
      Modes “800×600”
      ViewPort 0 0
      EndSubsection
      Subsection “Display”
      Depth 32
      Modes “800×600”
      ViewPort 0 0
      EndSubsection
      EndSection

Thank you to the antiX developers for giving new life to this machine. I can now play Pingus and Penguin Command like it’s the year 2000 again!
