Can I see files, icons, temporary stuff, reminders actually on the desktop or only in the desktop folder?

Yes, but it’s a bit tricky to do that in a rox managed desktop:
1- if you drag and drop a file to your desktop it will appear instantly there
2- You can access files in your desktop folder from the antix menu, search for the “Desktop” entry
3- I think rox uses a particular folder to store files displayed in the desktop (it’s not the regular desktop folder… sorry I don’t have access to a rox desktop right now to tell you what the correct folder is)
I think this is so tricky to do in a rox managed desktop because rox predates some common default “desktop” standards. A “space”/”zzz” desktop is easier to do, to achieve what you want…
