::Hi, the other part of my suggestion regarding VC was starting from terminal.
I expect that VC is a GUI and that you can start it by clicking on an icon or selecting application from menu.
Such as running ‘firefox[-esr]’ browser.
You can also start ‘firefox[-esr]’ from console by executing the command ‘firefox-esr &’.
You can also pass additional options such as ‘firefox-esr –private-window 2>/dev/null &’.
Program started this way prints some info into the terminal from which you start it.I thought that you could start VC’s GUI from terminal.
Similar to aforementioned firefox, ‘firefox-esr &’ or by direct call of the binary ‘/usr/bin/firefox-esr &’.This way, VC will hopefully print some information into the terminal, especially if you encounter error(s).
You may copy the lines into a text file and search for errors.
You can redirect the output of an application into a file when you start it.
‘/usr/bin/firefox-ers 1>FF_STDOUT.txt 2>FF_STDERR.txt &’
Or you can use ‘tee’ so that the program writes to both terminal and the stream is redirected at the same time into a file.
In the case of firefox ‘/usr/bin/firefox-esr | tee FF_STDOUT.txt’.
Redirecting both STDOUT and STDERR into a single file (so that you can easily see which STDOUT message precedes/follows which STDERR message) is slightly trickier but it still can be easily done (I did not remember it and I had to search the web), see the below link:

::* I see the selected drive’s info in the appropriate text box of VC’s drives list.
* I see a new file manager window open, showing the newly mounted drive.
* I see the newly mounted drive disappear from the file manager’s window.
* In VC, I find that the newly mounted drive has disappeared from VC’s list (leaving it empty again).Note: I have not read in too much detail as I do not have any “VC” drives.
I would look into the spacefm settings and see if the show internal partitions/mounts it enabled. (There are explainations on this in the forum)
It seems like when you are mounting the drive spacefm may be treating the encrypted drive as an internal drive / mount; which under default configuration will hide it from selection.Computers are like air conditioners. They work fine until you start opening Windows. ~Author Unknown

::I tested starting VeraCrypt via the terminal, and it worked perfectly that way; i.e. the GUI window initialized & worked normally.
What was not normal, was the way the system responded to the newly mounted drive.
* It opened a file manager window for the newly mounted drive, which VC has never done before now.
* The file manager window showing the contents of the newly mounted drive remained displayed for about 15(?) seconds, then closed.
* The newly mounted drive info in the VC window vanished.Closing the VC window, I found there no extra output at all in the terminal window. All it showed was the command starting VC, and then the next command prompt ready for input.
My next effort at fixing this will be to uninstall VC, and then reinstall it.

::Good news[, everyone! (Does/Did anyone watch “Futurama”?)]
Did you track updates in the meantime? Perhaps some of them fixed the issue.January 21, 2022 at 8:06 am #75690MemberModdIt
::if one has to type in the secret password via a terminal screen.
Did not see an answer, which may be useful to others or users new to linux.
you can copy and paste in to the Terminal using mouse easy enough.Passwords, scripts, commands. Do be careful with scripts from obscure internet sites.

::Some nice persons add things like a recursive delete which will quickly destroy the
system.I believe such people are quite sick, both emotionally & mentally. I think they’re “taking out” their resentments from events in their past onto others who had nothing to do with whatever it was that hurt them. Such actions are not only misdirected anger – it’s a form of mindless thrashing in emotional pain, striking out at whatever comes near.
It’s a path of cowardice, because their victims have no way of striking back.
It’s a path of laziness, because it’s much easier to hurt people, than to help them.January 21, 2022 at 8:46 am #75699Memberscruffyeagle
::I spent at least 3 hours this evening, trying to repair the VeraCrypt/mounting malfunction in the AntiX v19.3 (upgraded) operating system. This included doing online research, uninstalling & reinstalling VeraCrypt at least 3 times, screwing around with the settings in the Preferences, and rebooting the computer several times for switching between AntiX (non-functional) & Linux Mint (functional).
At the end of all this, it still wasn’t fixed. I made a tiny amount of progress, in that the OS delayed dismounting the VC drives by the time I was done. (The 10-15 second delay got extended into about a 30-45 second delay.) But honestly, I’m tired of screwing around with this, trying to fix it. I’ve learned a few things via this effort, but I think it’s time to accept that I just can’t fix it.
Last month, there was a power outage where I live. A tree hit a power line, about 100 ft. from my home. I was using one of my computers at the time of the disaster, but I don’t remember which laptop, or which OS of the 4 possibilities (2 OS’s on each of 2 laptops). I have to suspect that it’s possible the AntiX v19.3 was the one in use, and perhaps electrical surge damaged the OS’s contents?
So, I’ve decided to wrap it up, and end this thread. I’m going to download a copy of the Antix v21 OS (or the MX OS), and install it over the v19.3. (Note, that I do have a copy of AntiX v19.4 on my other laptop.)
Thank you, to all of you who’ve been so helpful in this long thread.

“I’d like some Admin to mark this thread as “solved”. (TIA)
I concluded that my problems were due to a failing hard drive, and replaced the drive.”
