      It is obvious that all antiX -users do not know how to make a symbolic link from an application to Desktop, so one way is to use a script (which works somehow). In rox-icewm, links are easier to make – just drag and drop using rox-filer filemanager.

          Nice idea. A similar script is included in IceWM Manager, available for the latest versions of antiX- it allows users to select applications using app-select and they are sent to the zzz-icewm desktop.

              Yes. Just try this entry:
              IceWM-Manager add icon to desktop

              Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

                Maybe via app-select is working if locale is english, but in my antiX 23 beta it does not work.

                Edit: Via app-select does not work, but via icewm-gui-manager is working.

                  I just tested it on antiX 22, portuguese, and I added ARandR to the desktop without any problem. I haven’t run the beta in a while, but I think anticapitalista shipepd the same exact version os the script for antiX 21/22 and the 23beta.
                  Please try upgrading the beta, if you have not done so.

                  The code is simple:

                  selected=$(app-select --select| cut -d '|' -f 1| tail -1)
                   #If a selection was not done, exit
                  	if [ -z "$selected" ]; then exit
                  	fi
                   cp "$selected"  /"$XDG_DESKTOP_DIR"

                    @PPC That was too easy solution. 😀

                        I tried out the handy script and added a desktop entry to my desktop using the tool and it works.
                        Not my “thing”, so then I removed the desktop icon and entry; no harm done.
                        I added a Google Chrome entry, clicked on the entry and Google Chrome did run as expected.
                        For those who do like desktop icons (I know some people who do and they literally cover their
                        desktop with executable action icons, and they do work; to each their own;

                        I use stuff that the same people would never use; that’s why we have freedom of choice
                        and multiple ways of doing things and I am definitely all for it; nice job on the tool;
                        it’s simple and it works very well!

                          @PPC´s solution is much better and easier to use.

                            I agree that PPC came up with a good solution. I haven’t had a chance to check yours out yet but I thank you for your time and effort whether it is great or not. We all learn by sharing and contributing. These days my contribution is to help moderate the forum and share history.

                            My own skills are dated; doesn’t mean they don’t work, they do, though there are many choices and possibilities.

                            Hundreds of times over the years I have stated that I prefer freely available software and yet I still advocate for BOTH free AND commercial software. Like it or not, many people make their livelihood from commercial hardware and software and the majority of citizens simply are not inquisitive people when it comes to phones and computers. Yes, some people HAVE TO GET the very latest stuff, they are suckers for whatever advertising suggests.
                            That’s OK too, though most of us here would absolutely shun that approach.

                            I still say it’s important for all of these alternatives to be available. Though some people get carried away, it’s still what churns the things that pay for food, entertainment and more. We can debate their value endlessly, yet it is what it is…

                              Sorry for the digression; I just think that choice is broader than many of us can imagine.

                                I made fixed version from original version. Now /usr/share/applications/antix desktop-files should come the righ way to desktop as symbolic links.
