How do I disable the Touchpad? it’s annoying as **** to be typing out something and all of a sudden it disappears or is moved somewhere else in the text. I end up with a bunch of FFE’s!

You can do this with synclient. I do not remember the options but it should be easy enough to review the help or man page after installing.

Then you can use xev to retrieve key codes and assign them to the command via your window managers key file as found in the control centre under desktop.

So what I think you’re saying is that I need to apt-get something called ‘synclient’ and also ‘xev’ so that I can disable the touchpad. I’ll search for those and get them installed.
          Thanks, mizpa

synclient apparently isn’t available, since a search in the package manager, as well as trying to get that package at a terminal is not available (cant find synclient.) I was able to download the document on it from the internet tho. So is there a fancy name for it other than synclient?

Both may be preinstalled I am not sure, I think synclient is part of the Synaptics xorg driver and xev part of x11 utilities…

                Did you try
                For turning the touchpad off
                synclient TouchpadOff=1
                For turning on
                synclient TouchpadOff=0

                syclient is part of xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

That’s weird, I just used that same command on my dist-upgraded antix and it doesn’t work to disable the touchpad …. just downright weird!

so I installed xserver-xorg-input-synaptics tried it again, and still didn’t work. What a bummer!
