Hi all,
for some reason, all my zzzfm-managed desktops now show the icons in my home folder.
I must have messed up with some config file, but I can’t remember which, and I’ve tried every file I know of…
The desktop I use is zzz-jwm, by the way.I DON’T want icons on my desktop, so any of the following solutions would be fine for me:
a) disabling desktop icons altogether (WITHOUT resorting to a minimal-jwm)
b) resetting the default desktop icons, which I can then delete (deleting all session* files in .config/zzzfm DIDN’T work for me)
c) pointing zzzfm to a different (empty) folder (no such option in zzzfm’s configuration though…)I couldn’t find where the different antiX sessions are actually stored either…
Thank you all again in advance

::Hello Titian.
for some reason, all my zzzfm-managed desktops now show the icons in my home folder.
I would like to understand what you did to make the .desktop files appear in your /home/tizianomattei/Desktop folder?
I updated antiX this week and didn’t see the .desktop files appear on the desktop. Check in Conky if you are really on a “zzz” desktop.
I DON’T want icons on my desktop, so any of the following solutions would be fine for me:
If you don’t want the .desktop files on your desktop, right click and delete each one.

I DON’T want icons on my desktop, so any of the following solutions would be fine for me:
Se você não quer os arquivos .desktop na sua área de trabalho, clique com o botão direito e exclua cada um deles.

::Do you have a ~/Desktop folder?
I think zzzfm / spacefm default to the home folder when there is no ~/Desktop folder.Alternatively, as you do not want desktop files, select the jwm session and run desktop-defaults-set to change the default file manager to zzzfm / spacefm. This will give you the zzzfm/spacefm file manager as default and will not expend extra resources to manage the desktop for icons that you do not wish to have.

::It sounds like there isn’t really a problem, and it just isn’t configured to work the way you want it. The zzz-jwm desktop includes desktop icons.
Maybe a good solution would be to run the jwm desktop instead of zzz-jwm, and change your default file manager to zzzfm via the Preferred Applications option?
PS: It looks like I suggested the same thing as Dave, but its just worded differently, he specified the actual program you could run from a terminal, and I gave the name it shows on the Control Centre Desktop tab

Excellent choice in general, from my experience…

I agree; it’s simple, doesn’t consume that many resources at all. By far, it’s when I start any Web browser that the resources start to climb.
But even when that happens, my 6-7 year old system STILL has between 6-7 G of MEMORY remaining! Too bad the CPU is a bit on the “old side”; I’ve NEVER had a shortage of either memory or available disk space on this system. Actually, the original HDD, while plentiful in FREE space, was clearly the #1 limiting factor on my Dell Inspiron 5558. Checking around, I could get SSD, but this model is too old to work properly with the really fast NVME SSD, so I opted for a moderately priced SSD with technology I was POSITIVE would work with this system. Though STILL not a race horse, it’ll work for many more years with fine distributions like antiX!It’s each person’s choice though and there are plenty of environments to choose from, ranging from plenty of small, fast, efficient window managers to a few relatively lightweight desktop environments, for those willing to go into the light-middleweight category. There’s something for anyone willing to investigate their options and choose what works best for them; I’m with you though, nothing wrong with IceWM; it’s perfect for getting on to your system quickly, modifying the taskbar to include your favorite apps (or leave it alone), and simply compute. It’s all there.

::::Do you have a ~/Desktop folder?
I think zzzfm / spacefm default to the home folder when there is no ~/Desktop folder.Yes, that’s what I did in fact, I deleted my ~/Desktop folder and zzzfm switched to my home folder, but then I created it again and it doesn’t want to go back to it, however I name it (english name, italian name…).

That was great advice I didin’t think of! I thought I’d lose some services or customisations. Now I’ve tried and in fact I don’t lose anything else than the icons I didn’t want in the first place, plus I’m saving about 30Mb RAM. Thank you!

IceWM is great, except for one small feature I’m really, really used to: having a pager where you can actually drag windows around. IceWM’s pager can’t do that, AFAIK, while in JWM’s one you can drag windows by holding the RMB.

::Maybe you have other major reasons why you like JWM?
antiX is designed that you can pretty easily change to a different desktop via the antiX >> Desktop >> Other Desktops menu options.
You could try IceWM using the plain icewm desktop as roki suggested. Create a terminal window. Left click on the title bar of the window and move the mouse. That’s how I move windows. You can switch back to JWM if you didn’t like it. antiX comes with the different desktops so you can try them and find what you like best.

I do not think I would agree with unnecessary and unjustified effort to convince a knowledgeable user to switch to IceWM, when the user’s preference is JWM and for good reason so… Particularly when IceWM does not bring any solutions or advantages vs. existing user’s preference.
One unique strength of antiX is that it has four WMs to choose from and all are equally supported, although the default out of the box is initially IceWM, perhaps considered the easiest one for novices.
I started with antiX 17 with Fluxbox, which I liked a lot, then after some time moved to IceWM, which I used for a long time, until got tired of working around various annoyances and inconsistencies and finally moved to JWM. But I am not ideologically partial to any WM and should the time come that any other WM proves a better one for me then I will consider switching… Such time has not come yet…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):
