I created an 8 GB antiX-17-base Live-USB. I ran “apt-update” and, afterwards, “dist-upgrade”, that gave me some errors and, among them, some “No space left on device” errors. After that, I ran ‘sudo apt autoremove’ to remove some no longer required packages, and this gave me this:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run ‘sudo dpkg --configure -a’ to correct the problem. The output of ‘sudo dpkg –configure -a’ ended as below:
Errors were encountered while processing: broadcom-sta-dkms adobe-flash-properties-gtkAnd finally:
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Reading package lists... Error! E: Write error - write (28: No space left on device) E: IO Error saving source cache E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. My main question is why there’s not space on device for dist-upgrade.
I attach the complete terminal output for all the commands.

::probably because you are out of space. either a persistence file you are using is full or close to full, or you are short on ram in the event that you aren’t using persistence.
so 1.
are you using persistence?
if so what size persistence file did you make?
if so, what mode of persistence (default, static, etc…)
how much ram do you have?
also, its a good idea before a dist-upgrade to remaster the live-usb and then make new persistence files.
you might be interested in a couple of videos.

::d_o, I have noticed (and previously posted to mention) that in between point releases, the smallest min_size offered among the choices
https://github.com/antiX-Linux/Persist-Scripts/blob/master/bin/persist-makefs#L15
is TOO small to accomodate dist-upgrade of a fresh LiveUSB.Smallest reasonable size for antiX might be 350MB, but dist-upgrade of a 4-month-old MX iso might require 500MB.

::IOW if you don’t use persistence, even a 64GB usb stick will not have enough space for a proper upgrade.

::Thanks for the replies.
I use persist_root from the F5 menu. During booting, I’ll see this:Begin mount persistence file rootfs at /live/persist-root copying 1 Megabytes to RAM... .. enable dynamic root persistenceAfter so many errors (especially the “No space left on device” ones), I decided not to save persistent root. Sorry.
Conky says 488M total RAM (& 370M total Disk when I log in as “Demo”).
I’ll see (again) the videos.

you should not be running the regular persistence options. use the “static” options. your ram is a major limiting factor.
as soon as you get your dist-upgrade done, you should then remaster.

I got the dist-upgrade done from the other laptop (0.98G RAM) with static persistence. After that, I remastered. There was not a bigger than 1012M option for rootfs file.
Many thanks for your help.- This reply was modified 5 years, 2 months ago by andfree.
