      As from today, 6 August 2020 Grrek time, a dist-upgrade will remove essential parts of antiX ie the logout dialog box.
      Instead just do

      sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

      A dist-upgrade shows this:

      Reading package lists… Done

      Building dependency tree
      Reading state information... Done

        libgtksourceview2.0-0 libgtksourceview2.0-common python-cairo python-dbus
        python-gobject-2 python-numpy python-pkg-resources python3-enchant
      Use 'apt autoremove' to remove them.
      The following packages will be REMOVED:
        cherrytree diffuse libpython-stdlib python python-gtk2 python-gtksourceview2
        python-minimal
      The following packages will be upgraded:

        And this applies only to -sid not stable & testing installations.

        Is there going to be a remedy to this situation or we have to live with it?

        This is the residual difference I get between the upgrade done and the dist-upgrade not done:

        Calculating upgrade... Done
        The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
          gir1.2-libvirt-sandbox-1.0 libmpdec2 libvirt-glib-1.0-0 libvirt-sandbox-1.0-5 libvirt0
        Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
        The following packages will be REMOVED:
          libpython-stdlib python python-minimal virt-sandbox
        The following packages will be upgraded:
          libpython2-stdlib python2 python2-minimal
        3 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 4 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

          Only to sid, for now. In 10 days,probably same in testing.
          It will not affect stable users.

          If sid users are ‘happy’ to use reboot or halt in a terminal, then all should be ok.
          Seems like python2 is being totally dumped by sid.

          Working on a remedy.

            For my stable installs (17 and 19) I thought sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade was recommended.

            And I thought this was also recommended for sid.

            Appreciate clarification.

            Thanks.

              Hello anticapitalista
              Thanks for the warning.
              python2 claims it will remove wicd.
              I can shutdown by terminal okay, but
              turning off internetworking mid upgrade could not be good.
              I have two sids using wicd. Need some change forced on me. ugh. quickly.
              pybootchart on the remove list. didn’t this happen before? often? but wicd!

              Found a note of same in last half of 2017. seems a time since then. oh.
              Do You kindly have a recommend for the day’s your preferred better wireless networking manager solution? Known Ceni is installed. Have regularly used wicd.

                @stevesr0 – this is only for sid and temporary. Too many things will break – see ile’s post.

                @ile – I use ceni on all my boxes. I like connman, others don’t.

                    I know little on antix internals. Is the logout dialog box etc. affected only because our existing scripts are still based on Python 2.7? Is it a matter of migrating those scripts to Python 3? If so, there is an official “2to3” tool provided by Python 2.7 that can possibly help. Just a fyi…

                      python2 and python3 can coexist.
                      So if you put python (2.7.12-2) on hold, your python2 packages will not be removed.

                      # apt-mark hold python

                      That should keep you out of trouble for a meantime and will do no harm to python3.
                      But still you better keep an careful eye on the removal list of ‘# apt full-upgrade’.

                              $ export LANG=C

                              For example:

                              $ apt list --upgradable
                              Вывод списка… Готово
                              $ export LANG=C
                              $ apt list --upgradable
                              Listing... Done
                              $ export LANG=ru_RU.utf8
                              $ apt list --upgradable
                              Вывод списка… Готово
                              $ export LANG=en_GB.utf8
                              $ apt list --upgradable
                              Listing... Done

                              Do you have systemd installed? Because the first one really makes it look like you do.

                                  Where did you get praise from? Are you using 32 or 64 bit antiX?

                                  antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.
