Hi!
I was just looking through the forums here and I noticed something odd. I was running a zzz Fluxbox session (just because I can) but when I tried the Forum’s drop-down Forum menu to look at recent posts nothing happened. The Main Forum choice worked, but not the sub-choices like Recent Posts, Latest Topics, etc. And it was the same behaviour for both Brave and Vivaldi browsers
But, when I changed the desktop to zzz IceWM, no such problem.
So, all that is to just ask if some websites don’t work quite right in a Fluxbox desktop?
OR do you have to be extra careful paying attention to cookies and all that in a Fluxbox desktop?Just for future reference and all that fun stuff.
Thanks in advance (as I say so many times)…

You must be using Chromium based browser. Chromium based browsers have this problem with drop-down menus in Fluxbox. It used to happen for me also in IceWM. It appears IceWM manifestation of this issue was resolved some time last year. The only WM I never had this issue was JWM.
Not only antiX suffers from this malfunction. A very nice and popular distro – MX-Fluxbox – is also affected…- This reply was modified 7 months, 2 weeks ago by olsztyn.

Of course, I use Chromium based browsers as a matter of course. But, oh well…

::Hi Mynaardt, olstyn is right with regard to fluxbox.
Strangely slow and some weird effects while testing with ungoogled-chromium yesterday.Guessing on cache interaction.
Issues with ICEWM were related to huge cache and the chrome way of never reducing cache
size until the system bogs or desktop breaks. I now have cache in temp. Cleared on every
shutdown and no issues since making that change months ago.September 17, 2022 at 8:49 am #89184Member

::Run into the same problem on staright icewm with no desktop with chromium based browsers.
So probably not a fluxbox issue. No problem with esr firefox. I never mentioned it though because right click option after high lighting recent posts tab gave me open in another tab. Which works.

That’s a good work-around, rockytnji thanks for that!

::Hi mynaardt, had posting issue so next try.
add following to your .desktop-session/startup but replacing demo with your username!.
#Moves chromium cache to temp, thanks to xecure #First line only needed if chromium cache exists in home [ -d "$HOME/.cache/chromium" ] && rm -rf $HOME/.cache/chromium mkdir -p /tmp/demo/.cache/chromium && ln -sf /tmp/demo/.cache/chromium /home/demo/.cache/chromium mkdir -p /tmp/demo/.cache/chromium/Default && ln -sf /tmp/demo/.cache/chromium/Default /home/demo/.cache/chromium/DefaultSince adding I have had no more cache size related problems. Remember some websites will load slightly slower as the cache and
graphics cache rebuilds. Unlike firefox you can not easily set chrome based browsers to always delete cache on shutdown, this
is a workaround.September 19, 2022 at 6:05 am #89300Member
