Doesn’t show my ttyUSBx device – (first time antiX user)

I used MX Linux before and came to know that it was based on antiX
So, I installed antiX now (want to try a completely systemd free distro) and I expected out of the box experience.
Of course it did but I am doing some development work where I use a Single Board Computer from PHYTEC which is not detected by antiX :(.
On Windows it shows as FT230X if driver was not found and it was easy to install driver obviously.
I went to FTDI site (https://ftdichip.com/drivers/vcp-drivers/) and checked for Linux drivers but it said

All FTDI devices now supported in Ubuntu 11.10, kernel 3.0.0-19
Refer to TN-101 if you need a custom VCP VID/PID in Linux
VCP drivers are integrated into the kernel.

That means I suppose it should detect the board by default but sudo dmesg | grep tty gives below:

minicom: cannot open /dev/ttyUSB0: No such file or directory
gmk@anti-X:~
$ sudo dmesg | grep tty
[ 0.095632] printk: console [tty0] enabled

What could be the problem here?
FYI:On Ubuntu (16 -> 22) board is detected without any hustle

Possibly you need an Ubuntu kernel 3.0.0-19 or above? Are you sure the needed code was ever ported from ubuntu to the default linux kernel?

Hi, I’m not sure. I’m not an avid Linux user. But your guess might be correct. They specifically mentioned Ubuntu.
So, I need to distro hop again. Next on the list is Bodhi.
But it would be better if someone else confirms this. I can try installing drivers if there is a working method.
I tried something from youtube https://youtu.be/jynlynjOOek but it didn’t work somehow?

You could try to install the ubuntu kernel on antiX. No idea whether this will work. And the manufacturer should answer the question whether explicitly an ubuntu kernel is needed for their equipment to run on Linux and which kernel patches precisely they need. Then somebody more experienced with kernel building can tell you whether it is possible to use it with another linux flavour or how to patch and build the kernel to make it work.

Wow looks like it is tough to get this working. I will change my distro for now.
It would be really helpful if someone can provide solution to this. I will happily come back again.

At least until a simple explanation and solution can be identified, MX Linux is another excellent option. Anticapitalista, our founder, has contributed to that project in the past too and it’s “in the family “; many people use both and participate in both forums.

There’s very minimal, if any, systemd code in the stock version of MX Linux, though I think there is a hook for systemd software to allow for the inclusion of Debian based software.

I wouldn’t let that deter you unless that’s a huge deal to you. Personally I enjoy both distributions.
