I have read that for rigs ranging from early 2021 onward it’s advisable to run AntiX with kernel 5.1x. But, can legacy kernel 4.9 still run normally on those rigs, or will there be problems?

      Thanks.

Install it and check using the package installer in antiX control center is the best way to find out for sure. Each hardware is different so no guessing applies.

Easy enough to un-install using the package manager I described above also.

Hi, according to https://kernel.org/category/releases.html 4.9 is LTS with projected end-of-life [EOL] in January 2023.
As long as new version of 4.9 with security patches continue to occasionally appear, it should be OK to stick with it until then.
After that, if you add no new HW (at least one causing problems), it could be fine provided you do not mind no security patches.

If 5.* do not work well, you may also test 4.19 (projected EOL: December 2024) as a “smaller” upgrade step.

You’ll have trouble running the latest Intel chipsets with legacy kernel, the computer simply wont boot.
