Wget successor wget2 has been around since a while already.

Could it be good idea to replace it in AntiX 21, Base at least? Or is it too early for unknown reasons?

      Thanks again.

Hi, this could be more complicated than it seems.

If you install ‘apt-rdepends’, you may list packages that depend on a given package ‘apt-rdepends -r <package-name>’.
It turns out that there is quite a lot (roughly 600 in my antiX stable install with many additional packages) in the case of ‘wget’.

E.g. ‘advert-block-antix’, ‘dillo’, ‘yt-dlp’ and ‘youtube-dl’ both depend on the ‘wget’ package.
The first two mentioned were to be removed when I performed a “dry-run” (not confirming to proceed with it) of ‘sudo apt remove wget’.

Unless dependency on ‘wget’ is phased out from (most of) these packages, it would be premature/too-demanding.

I’m sure the ‘new’ version has ‘features’ that some people have been seeking but until there’s a clear succession and packaging update on the dependent packages I’d personally leave it alone. Over time assuming wget2 really is the appropriate successor then the dependencies will be adjusted; until then use what’s available OR manually add wget2 and maintain it yourself as a duplicate package until the replacement is properly integrated into the infrastructure.

they don’t conflict with one another and wget2 is in the debian repo so go ahead and grap it if you want.
