Why does antiX have no instructions for verifying the ISO on the download page?
I am unhappy, I have spent over an hour trying to verify my ISO.
The md5sum and sha256sum match, so that part is OK.
I could not get the signature to work.
So I tried this form and used the information I found, that was no help. The instruction from the download page of Mint lmde are so simple, I can get a signature for my Mint ISO in lest than 5 minutes.
I really want to try antiX, but I will not put an ISO on my machine that does not have a signature. Please give simple instructions on how to verify My antiX-21_x64-full.iso.
It would helpful to know whats on the different ISO, I am only guessing I am picking the best ISO.I was able to verify MX linux, it was very easy.
MX linux is how I heard about antiX.
antiX works together with mx linux right, why doesn’t antiX use there verification page or method.
How many people has antiX lost to people who could not verify the ISO.I ALMOST GOT IT. I may have found the answer https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/signed-iso-files/
As of the antiX-15.1 release (March 16, 2016), both antiX Main and antiX MX iso files to be downloaded have been signed by the appropriate lead dev. Also, MX snapshots and remasters are now signed. antiX and MX devs strongly advise users to verify the iso files for authenticity by following the steps below.
gpg –keyserver hkps://keys.openpgp.org –recv-keys 409C71B3BCFDED0A 70938C780679EE98 9B68A1E8B9B6375C 13C74A22892C32F1 A80582E000067FDD
worked perfect.
gpgv –keyring pubring.kbx MX-21_x64.iso.sig MX-21_x64.iso
did not work
gpgv: can’t allocate lock for ‘/home/bruce/.gnupg/pubring.kbx’
gpgv: can’t open ‘MX-21_x64.iso.sig’: No such file or directory
gpgv: verify signatures failed: No such file or directory
I am almost there.
Hours later I got it. the answer is below.
bruce@debbie-1:~/Downloads/antiX$ sudo gpgv –keyring pubring.kbx antiX-21_x64-full.iso.sig antiX-21_x64-full.iso
gpgv: Signature made Sun 31 Oct 2021 05:36:10 AM CDT
gpgv: using RSA key 30AA418A0C723D937B50A986A80582E000067FDD
gpgv: Good signature from “anticapitalista (change of address) <anticapitalista@riseup.net>”
bruce@debbie-1:~/Downloads/antiX$
This is redicklessly hard. I wish I could put the instructions on the download page. So the next guy could do it in less than 20 minutes.- This topic was modified 1 year, 4 months ago by Bruce7777.

So where does MX Linux make it easy to verify ‘their verification page or method’?

::@anilkaji: & @sybok: That is a very good “Step by step guide to install antiX-Base”. Do note that the thread is three pages long and the document has been updated to incorporate changes, so please look at the final update too.
If there is anything that is still out of date, I didn’t notice it, but if anyone does notice anything, it would be helpful to either update this excellent guide or send in any suggested changes. This is another excellent volunteer effort; I always appreciate this kind of guide; “thumbs up” appreciation!

::Thank you. I am sorry if what I said came off rude.
AntiX is a very good ditro and I want it to grow.AntiX has develop an excellent distro.
I want people to try it.
The download page needs some real work.
The way the mirrors are setup, it looks like something from the 90’s.
I downloaded the wrong ISO at first. it was the net ISO.I know what your thinking, if the distro is this good, the download page does not matter.
The thing is there are 100’s of ditro out there.
The download page is the first thing they see.
If the download page is cool the distro has to be good.
If the download page is from thwe 90’s, they are going to look somewhere else.Linux Mint LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) is my daily driver.
I have tied many distro over the past 10 years, but always come back to MINT.
I put cinnamon on MX linux, I like it so much it may become my daily driver.
I put antiX on my older machines and I real like it.Thinking about it, It is more important that MX linux improve their down load page.
New people from Windows would not be a good fit for antiX.
Antix is for people who have used linux for a while and are looking for something new, maybe better.
I think antiX will get a lot of people from MX Linux.
I don’t know who developed the persistent software, but that is truly remarkable.
Keep up the good work.January 7, 2022 at 12:25 am #74748Moderator

::@bruce7777:
You have several good ideas.
This, and many distributions, are freely developed by people in many different countries, jobs and professional areas.anticapitalista is a teacher.
Various other people do a variety of things. If ANYONE associated with antiX has personally met even one other person here, I am not aware of it. I’ve been testing and using antiX since the first build, and MEPIS before that. I have attended one Debian conference almost 20 years ago; most of us who were there are either retired or close to it; I didn’t knowingly meet anyone here.
My point is that we simply help, use and contribute antiX features as volunteers and if you have experience and expertise, we will accept and appreciate your consideration and contribution; that’s what makes it better.

::By the way, another developer, “Dolphin Oracle” works on development projects for MX Linux and antiX and also provided several very good videos to demonstrate recently added features and capabilities.
Adrian, a long time MEPIS and MX Linux developer has also shared many helpful features; all of these fine people and many others volunteer their expertise; we have others and always accept fresh ideas and additional people to contribute.
