You need to install the restricted codecs for watching dvds
        control-centre –>driver –>CodecsInstaller

        Did you ?

That may not be the issue. I inserted a dvd the other day and it does not show up. Either does a CD. I had to mount them manually as root then they were accessible to the user to play, write to or whatever. I did not investigate any further as I don’t normally use the disc player/writer so I don’t care.

            thanks for that.

this plus installing the non-free video codecs (control center -> package installer -> non-free) helped. then i set my dvd to automount (control center -> disks -> configure automount) by checking the box in front of “auto-launch preferred video player upon dvd insertion” and adding “gnome-mpv %d /media/sr0-2” (without the quotes) in the dvd command field. of course it will help to check /media to see where the dvd is in fact mounted 🙂
