Hello all, who tried to to install Elementary/pantheon DE on antix? What is the procedure? Will it affect overall performance of Antix or not? Thanks

I don’t know if anyone else has tried it on antiX, but it should be possible to install following any tutorial for installing it in Debian 10 buster (it requires adding a separate repository, see this article).

If you try it out, when you reach the installation commands (apt install), use –install-recommends options so you are sure it installs all recommended packages
        sudo apt install --install-recommends pantheon

Let us know how it goes.

A comment would be that part of why antiX is blazing fast is because the default setups (window manager and desktop combined are like a DE) are lightweight setups configured to use little CPU and memory compared to the big DE setups. That is the meaning of “lean and mean”, and why it runs well even on a 22 year old Pentium III.

I wouldn’t expect the same performance running Elementary DE, but let us know how it turns out. I would think it might boot and run faster than its native environment, but wouldn’t expect it to run like IceWM .

Yes, it will. Any full Desktop Environment will not run as well as the default “Desktops” built in to antiX. AntiX uses Window Managers and file managers and scripts that are much leaner and better suited to low resource machines.
