I have an R285 Epson printer set up for my wife’s laptop (Asus X551C), running antix-core19.4+LXDE.
This has been working fine for the last 12 months, until today that is. It’s simply refused to print. It’s not the printer
itself, as this works fine with our other antix laptops. USB-connectivity isn’t the problem either, as her laptop is
working fine with our USB-scanner.To try and remedy this, I uninstalled the software for setting up the printer, using sudo apt remove –purge for the following:
system-config-printer
system-config-printer-common
system-config-printer-udev
cups
printer-driver-gutenprint
cups-pdf
printer-driver-cups-pdf
printer-driver-escpr… followed by apt autoremove, and reboot. I then reinstalled the above, but still the laptop is showing no communication at all with the printer.
Any ideas on how to fix this would be great – many thanks in advance

::Is the printer still seen by system-config-printer and if so is it activated and approved for all users under
preferences ?
Did you try to print a test-side or did you only try until now with eg. libreoffice ?
Might something appropriate was updated today, you can look for that under var/log/apt/history.logFebruary 13, 2022 at 3:48 am #77312Member

Yes, the printer is still seen, when attempting to print pdf files (evince) or libreoffice. However, the file waiting to be printed remains in ‘pending’ mode, but not printed. See the first two screenshots below. The 1st screenshot says the file location /usr/lib/cups/filter/commandtoepson is not available, but the 3rd screenshot below shows that it’s still listed on the system.

::You sure already followed afghans suggestion and installed libnss-mdns
/usr/lib/cups/filter/commandtoepson is part of the printer-driver-gutenberg which you already reinstalled.
If I were in your place, I would reinstall the printer itself, which means open
system-config-printer, right click on the printer and then delete. Then start new with Add printer.February 14, 2022 at 4:19 pm #77403Member

::I installed libnss-mdns, but it didn’t work, so subsequently removed it from the system.
However, your suggestion worked: i.e. simply deleting the printer within system-config-printer
and then clicking Add to reinstall it.Many thanks caprea – as always your help is very much appreciated !
However, I’m going to have to ask you, or another moderator, to marked
this as “[Solved]”, as I seem to have passed the time-limit for doing
this myself.- This reply was modified 1 year, 2 months ago by mikey777.
