Epson scanner: problem installing the ‘Core’ files within the ‘iscan bundle’

Using the tutorial I posted at https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/install-an-epson-perfection-v500-scanner-others-on-antix19-4-core/ I was previously able to successfully install an Epson-V500-Photo scanner on antix19, for the laptops listed in my signature below.

However, I’m having difficulties installing it on antix21. When I get to ‘step 6b’ in the above link, i.e. installation of core files from the iscan package, I get the following error output from terminal:

Desktop/iscan-gt-x770-bundle-2.30.4.x64.deb/core # dpkg -i 
dpkg: error: --install needs at least one package archive file argument
Type dpkg --help for help about installing and deinstalling packages [*];
Use 'apt' or 'aptitude' for user-friendly package management;
Type dpkg -Dhelp for a list of dpkg debug flag values;
Type dpkg --force-help for a list of forcing options;
Type dpkg-deb --help for help about manipulating *.deb files;
Options marked [*] produce a lot of output - pipe it through 'less' or 'more' !

You should do: dpkg -i iscan-gt-x770-bundle-2.30.4.x64.deb

You probably need sudo as well.

Many thanks for your reply afghan. I’m afraid your suggestion wont work, as I’m not installing a regular file, i.e. terminal output looks like this:

root@X71Q:/home/asus/Desktop# dpkg -i iscan-gt-x770-bundle-2.30.4.x64.deb
dpkg: error: archive 'iscan-gt-x770-bundle-2.30.4.x64.deb' is not a regular file

If you look at the above tutorial link (given in #78278), you’ll see that the Data, Core and Plugins files, contained within iscan-gt-x770-bundle-2.30.4.x64.deb, need to be installed separately and in that order, i.e. tutorial steps 6a, 6b and 6c respectively. The Data file appeared to install smoothly in Step 6a, but in 6b I had the issue shown in #78278.

You probably need sudo as well.

I already have permissions as root user, denoted by the ‘#’ prompt in the terminal output above, so don’t need sudo.

It was how I used to install iscan deb files before. It worked fine for me.
Nowadays I don’t need to install any of the files from Epson. They just work with the “driverless” driver. All new Epson stuff works this way nowadays.

It’s probably not a good idea to be in root when installing stuff or fiddling about. sudo it much safer. Typing that extra command gives you just a split second to realise you’re about to be making a big mistake, like rm -f /*.

Beware of people who knows nothing; they are the ones that won't know that they know nothing.

Thankyou for your reply afghan, I think you kick-started my brain and put it back into gear! I feel a bit silly, as I’d forgotten to put the contents of the core file for installation (the contents being different from what you suggested), after the command dpkg -i.:

That is to say, instead of:
~/Desktop/iscan-gt-x770-bundle-2.30.4.x64.deb/core # dpkg -i
It should be:
~/Desktop/iscan-gt-x770-bundle-2.30.4.x64.deb/core # dpkg -i iscan_2.30.4-2_amd64.deb

Now it works – SOLVED!
