      I’ve fumbled around and managed to add file access to a few commonly used programs to the desktop. I added VLC Media Player to my install, but I can’t find it in the files. Any hints as to where it might be stored?

        should be a desktop entry under /usr/share/applications.

        its shows in my menu at Applications->Sound And Video

            $>type vlc
            vlc is /usr/bin/vlc

              Thank, wildstar84. That seems to be the non-executable shared library, where the vlc in /usr/share/applications is the executable.
