Just found /home/demo/.cache/mozilla/firefox/qkll7nhf.default-esr/cache2/entries
had a lot of files 2.4 GB plus in size. I rarely use the ESR so very suspicious.
suggest others might like to take a look if same. Delete.

::Its the firefox website cache only. You can have a look what is stored and manage or delete it selectively also, see:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/permission-store-dataOn machines with small storage capacity you’ll see smaller amounts of cached website data as you’ve found. It’s said to be “smart”.
Also you can set a maximum for the cache used by firefox manually:
look in about:config for the subvalues of
browser.cache.disk
to adjust the cache behaviour or to disable caching completely. And there is an option automatically to purge it each time you quit firefox. For example, on my systems I see cache size not bigger than 146,2 MB while having 50+ Tabs open in Firefox ESR. But it’s also a question what you allow websites and what you don’t allow them. uBlock origin makes run things much more fluent, preventing nonsense from getting executed on your equipment constantly.
Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

::Hi Robin, The post was intended more as a heads up for the newer users, plus some I can now only reach by the forum. The cache is so smart it crippled my desktop. The standard caching is probably designed to provide instant evidence, place border guards or law enforcment look for example when they want a laptop for a check.
Your info is good and useful for sure, for that many thanks.there is an option automatically to purge it each time you quit firefox. that is set, seems only to apply to the “other cache” which in my case writes to temp. Anyway the data is still on the drive unless overwritten.
I have 8GB memory so for own use do not cache to disk, some users have to manage with 1 GB, so must cater for them and not the affluent.
also set
browser.cache.disk.enable false
browser.cache.offline.enable false
browser.cache.offline.storage.enable false- This reply was modified 1 year, 4 months ago by ModdIt.
