Got antiX installed on an older iMac. Works like a charm!
The 19.3 install on my laptop has a firewall setting icon in Control Centre/NetworkI can’t find any firewall config in Control Centre in antiX-22.
Do I need to further config/install something?I’m trying to ssh into the iMac from my laptop and/or use FileZilla. TIA

libpolkit-agent-1 was not installed. Imagine!! It should be a dependency for `gufw’ IMHO.
And furthermore, does the fact that (g)ufw not being installed with antiX-22 Full mean that there’s zero firewall protection by default? I sure hope not. Maybe the relevant config files are there but no means to get at them?

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

I think antiX 22 Full includes, out of the box, ufw, but disabled and without a GUI (I think antiX used to include a GUI for it?)
To enable it, on the terminal:sudo ufw enable
To disable, on the terminal it:sudo ufw disableOnce enabled, it should start automatically the next time you start antiX…

@anticapitalista: Do you want me to create a tiny yad GUI to turn the firewall on/off? So users can do it from the Control Center?

::@PPC
@anticapitalistaThanks for the clearing that up. However, should this not be flashed to the user/installer at install time? With a warning to leave the firewall alone unless/until the user knows what he’s doing?

Even though the commands are fairly short and simple, a quick script is nice.
If someone has difficulty we can point to the script.

If Putin and Xi would listen to “the masses” it would be a totally different world at the moment – would it not?
OT I know! But I couldn’t help myself. Thanks!! 👍

::I don’t feel a gui is needed for every utility including ufw. Where does it end?
A better option in my opinion, is to revise https://download.tuxfamily.org/antix/docs-antiX-21/FAQ/index.html#_post_installation to something like this.
—
How to enable the Firewall?
antiX includes iptables and ufw. Enable ufw firewall by executing:
sudo ufw enableufw configuration files are found at /etc/ufw/. ufw.conf is its configuration file and user rules may be placed in user.conf (IPv4) and user6.conf (IPv6).
See ‘man ufw’ for addition details on using ufw.
(I suppose you could keep the line below, but is it really needed?)
An alternative is to use Gufw. Once installed, to set it up go to Control Centre-→ Network-→ Manage Firewall.

Not trying to be cheeky but the solution isn’t always a gui. However, I could be wrong. I am often wrong. 🙂

::@Techore – I respect your opinion, but I also think that basic management tasks any non geek user may want to perform: namely- set date and time, update the OS, install packages, enable/disable a firewall, add/remove icons the the toolbar or the menu, etc, should, by default have an easy to use GUI out of the box. It takes only some kb and one extra entry on the Control Center. If users don’t need it, they won’t notice any difference… but if users need that feature, they’ll be glad it’s there…
@anticapitalista and all- the script is ready (it requires some localization, but it’s already adapted for easy localization- the variables with the text are all on the start of the script…)
Please test the GUI:Note and possible TO DO: on my system, after toggling on UFW, it was off after I rebooted… I think this was discussed before on the forum- if so, please point me to the how-to, so that feature can be added to the script- I’m too busy to search the forum for that, right now…
EDIT: I’m running antiX 22, 64bits, full, runnit
