      Hiyall,
I have downloaded FLAC. Can I use it in XMMS? If so, how?

It’s not clear to me wether you have downloaded the FLAC codec, or if you have downloaded a FLAC file. I do believe the codec is included in most distros, my package manager tells me it in installed anyway (so you should find it in Synaptic if you need it). If the codec is installed, you should be able to play FLAC files in XMMS. Why not download a FLAC file and just try to play it? Alternatively, try ripping a file from CD and convert it to FLAC. I haven’t done that in ages, but I think I installed Brasero for the job. Or try to convert a WAV file in Audacity.

          Hi PR,
You answered everything EXCEPT my question. I was inquiring whether FLAC existed in XMMS. It must because it plays a flac file!

As I tried to point out in my answer, but to hopefully clarify:

FLAC exists with antiX, or whatever other distro/OS you are using. As I pointed out, I found it in my package manager, which means it exists on my system separately from the player. So whenever XMMS (or any other player) tries to play a FLAC file, it calls on the FLAC codec in the operating system. It is not installed within the player. Not sure where those codecs are installed exactly, some of the technically minded people here can probably answer that.
