For those, like me, that enjoy reading e-books, one of the “best” (by that I mean both more compatible when rendering files, more feature rich, fast and also with a nice GUI) options out there is “foliate”- but it isn’t available in the Debian repos and, as I tested before, it’s available in flatpak format, but flatpaks need to install 1 gig of more of dependencies in order to work, and it’s a hassle making a flatpak program access your hard drive.. Thankfully the MX packages foliate (it’s a tiny 800kb or so package).
You can download it from http://mxrepo.com/
Search for the MX-21 package if you are using antiX 22 or antiX 21, or the MX-19 package if you are using antiX 19.
Download the file you want (example: foliate_2.6.3-0.1~mx19+1_all.deb) and install it (example: sudo apt install [drag and drop the deb file here] (
It even comes in 64bit or 32 bits!

@anticapitalista: This package could be a nice addition to antiX’s Package Installer!

        Hello @PPC,

Thank you, it’s very interessant, I’ll try it.

As you know, mupdf (already in antiX, isn’t it ?) can read .epub files, but, of course, it doesn’t offer the same foliate’s features.

        Friendly.

        Vive antiX !

@Rantanplan – yep- I tried mupdf- it starts way faster than foliate, but does not recall the page currently being read (it’s a hassle, having to scrible the page number somewhere) and also lacks a dark mode (that my eyes urgently need).
There are loads of nice e-book readers, both in Linux and for android (and even some that can be sideloaded into Kobo readers, that allow for better use of screen space than the default reader, and also reading more file types)!

Edit: I stand corrected- you can launch mupdf with the “-I” flag that inverts colors (so you get white letters and a black background- but also you get a “negative” of any pictures in the file)- so, basically mupdf with an option to record the current page would be ideal for me…

Yes about inverted colors, you’re more faster than me 🙂
It is a “workaround” reader when you have little RAM 🙂

            Best to you.
