Are you talking about using a different keyboard layout for your language? Use Control Centre System > Set System Keyboard Layout and select the one that corresponds to your country.

Yes, I tried that, but it makes no difference. I can choose between two layouts, one ‘no dead keys’ and one with ‘Win-keys’ (my translation from Danish)

If your keyboard is a “normal” (no special feature) danish keyboard (http://kbdlayout.info/KBDDA/), you DONT need to select any variants (leave empty)

If it still doesn’t work, try the Control centre > Session > Change Keymap for session, Denmark > Danish (Apply and test).

If you run antiX 17.4 live (from CD or USB), and select Danish (Dansk) Language on the boot menu (F2 option), and boot into the live media, open a editor and start writing.
Does the keyboard work correctly (as intended) using the apostrophes (á à) as you expect?

What is in /etc/default/keyboard?

For Danish and US keyboard you need

XKBMODEL="pc105"
XKBLAYOUT="dk,us"
XKBVARIANT=""
XKBOPTIONS=""

BACKSPACE="guess"

and á with “´” + “a”. works as it should

Now I have edited /etc/default/keyboard, but that did not solve my problem. Instead I just got an american keyboard layout, so I do not have my Danish letters and now I don\t know how to find various characters, eg. the \ wasn\t intended here.
