      Hello everybody.
      I updated antiX today (2022-02-05) and I can no longer play the SuperTuxKart game and the game in AppImage Minetest-5.3.0-x86-64.
      In antiX 19.3 game SuperTuxKart runs when I click on the menu, I don’t see the game window but, I hear the game music playing. And Minetest game does not open the game window.
      I was able to test the game on AppImage Minetest-5.3.0-x86-64 with the antiX 21’s LiveUSB and it worked normally.
      The attached file has the result of the commands inxi -G and inxi -S, I ran supertuxkart and minetest in the terminal.

        Hi, honestly I have no idea about the problem but exploring/posting the ‘/var/log/apt/history.log’ may help to identify which package cause the update.

        You may try to reinstall these updates, force downgrade (will probably break the system in a long run/term).
        Is it possible to re-initialize/install the appimage?

        I found two errors in the log you posted:

        [error ] STKTexManager: Error while loading kart ‘Evil Tux-V1’:
        [error ] STKTexManager: Failed to load tuxkart.png.

        The latter suggests the image-file is missing or the loading fails; could you check the file is present?
        find <path to tuxkart "root" folder> -name 'tuxkart.png' 2>/dev/null

          Hello sybok.
          Thanks for helping me.
          Appimages are executable programs and are not installed. SuperTuxKart is installed.
          I found the file you indicated, I looked at it and didn’t understand anything.
          I applied the find command and also searched in searchmonkey and the result of the two I put in the attached file.
          Thanks for helping me.

          Olá sybok.
          Obrigado por me ajudar.
          Os appimage são programas executáveis e não são instalados. O SuperTuxKart está instalado.
          Eu encontrei o arquivo que você indicou, eu olhei para ele e não entendi nada.
          Apliquei o comando find e também busquei no searchmonkey e o resultado dos dois eu coloquei no arquivo anexo.
          Obrigado por me ajudar.

            @appimage:
            Obivously, there are some files ‘tuxkart.png’ present, i.e. it seems the game does not seem to be corrupted by e.g. removal of some files.
            I know it is an appimage, not installed.
            I thought that perhaps some library in your system has changed and appimage is not aware of it yet and needs to be “reinitialized” or its cache cleared or whatever the equivalent is in the case of an appimage software.
            Just guessing there…

            @update:
            The attachment from your last post does not contain the ‘/var/log/apt/history.log’ with the updates.
            Could you please add it?

              I don’t know how to clear cache, please teach me how to clear my cache.
              I restarted my computer after the update, both appimage and supertuxkart didn’t work.

              Thanks.

              Desculpe-me, eu esqueci de enviar.
              Eu não sei limpar o cache, por favor, me ensine a limpar o meu cache.
              Eu reiniciei o meu computador após a atualização, tanto o appimage quanto supertuxkart não funcionaram.

              Obrigado.

                Hello Felipe.

                I detected the same problem that you described in the game SuperTuxKart on the computer described in the text file attached below, I followed the same test model that you made posted. After the antiX update or the SuperTuxKart game update, I’m not sure if it was one or the other, or if it was both that were updated. The window does not open and I can only hear the game’s audio. Apparently, the problem extends to other GNU/Linux games and AppImage games that before the antiX update worked perfectly and after the update, the same AppImage no longer works.

                I hope this topic is not forgotten, as I have been informed in the Telegram and WhatsApp groups that the same problem has occurred with other people. It’s really bad when problems occur and we don’t know what to do to fix them.

                Olá felipecardope.

                Eu detectei o mesmo problema que você descreveu no jogo SuperTuxKart no computador descrito no arquivo de texto anexo abaixo, eu segui o mesmo modelo de teste que você fez postou. Após a atualização do antiX ou do jogo SuperTuxKart, eu não sei ao certo se foi um ou o outro, ou se foi ambos que foram atualizados. A janela não abre e eu posso apenas ouvir o áudio do jogo. Ao que parece, o problema se estende a outros jogos do GNU/Linux e aos jogos em AppImage que antes da atualização do antiX funcionavam perfeitamente e após a atualização, os mesmos AppImage não funcionam mais.

                Eu espero que este tópico não seja esquecido, pois eu fui informado nos grupos de Telegram e WhatsApp que o mesmo problema ocorreu com outras pessoas. É muito ruim quando ocorrem problemas e não sabemos o que fazer para corrigi-los.

                  Hi, Marcelo- I took a look at the log you posted: it seems to be some kind of error connect to the sound (Alsa)- the complete error, in English is:

                  LCplaybackAlsa_mixerProc: mmap commit error: broken pipe

                  Looking for that error on-line, I found out that at least in another game (flightgear) it had something to do with the compilation of the version that had that problem, on slow devices that could not keep up, as expected, with what the code wants to perform… If it’s that, it seems that there is no solution, at least not when using antiX 19.X… Probably the games that have that problem can run ok in antiX 21 – my advice, is, if possible, trying to boot from a live antiX 21 iso and then try to install the offending game- and see if it works… Probably no one will recompile any piece of software to antiX 19 (based in Debian 10, when the current version is now Debian 11, in which antiX 21 is based)…
                  If possible, you could try downgrading supertuxkart to a previous version or try an appimage version.

                  P.

                    I had the same problem on antiX 19.5. The (MX?) package is corrupted, install from Debian buster backports instead. This solved the issue for me.

                    apt install -t buster-backports supertuxkart

                      From Marcelo Crepe:

                      Hello PPC and blur13.

                      I thank you for participating in this topic.

                      After applying the commands below, I got the following result:

                      cp5@antix5:~
                      $ sudo apt update

                      cp5@antix5:~
                      $ sudo apt upgrade
                      cp5@antix5:~
                      $ apt install -t buster-backports supertuxkart
                      E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend - open (13: Permission denied)
                      E: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), are you root?
                      cp5@antix5:~
                      $

                      cp5@antix5:~
                      $ sudo apt install -t buster-backports supertuxkart
                      E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend - open (11: Feature temporarily unavailable)
                      E: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), is another process using it?
                      cp5@antix5:~
                      $

                      After I read the PPC text, I thought, why hadn’t I thought of doing this yet. Next, I looked at the supertuxkart package in Synaptic, because that’s the only way I can “see” things. The version that is installed of supertuxkart is 1.1-0.1~mx19+1(buster), I will try to install the version that blur13 indicated, if it goes wrong I will try version 0.9.3-2(oldstable). If one version works, I’ll be able to use the command that Xecure taught that blocks or prevents a certain package from being updated.

                      I’ll get back to you in a bit.

                      Thanks.

                      Olá PPC e blur13.

                      Eu agradeço por vocês participarem deste tópico.

                      Após aplicar os comandos abaixo, eu obtive o seguinte resultado:

                      cp5@antix5:~
                      $ sudo apt update

                      cp5@antix5:~
                      $ sudo apt upgrade
                      cp5@antix5:~
                      $ apt install -t buster-backports supertuxkart
                      E: Não foi possível abrir arquivo de trava /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend - open (13: Permissão negada)
                      E: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), are you root?
                      cp5@antix5:~
                      $

                      cp5@antix5:~
                      $ sudo apt install -t buster-backports supertuxkart
                      E: Não foi possível obter trava /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend - open (11: Recurso temporariamente indisponível)
                      E: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), is another process using it?
                      cp5@antix5:~
                      $

                      Após eu ler o texto do PPC, eu pensei, porque será que eu ainda não havia pensado em fazer isso. Em seguida, eu olhei para o pacote supertuxkart no Synaptic, porque só assim eu “enxergo” as coisas. A versão que está instalada do supertuxkart é a 1.1-0.1~mx19+1(buster), eu vou tentar instalar a versão que o blur13 indicou, se der errado tentarei a versão 0.9.3-2(oldstable). Se uma versão funcionar, eu poderei utilizar o comando que o Xecure ensinou que bloqueia ou impede um determinado pacote de ser atualizado.

                      Daqui a pouco eu retorno.

                      Grato.

                        Regarding getting “locked out” when you attempt to perform package updates or upgrades, here is what sometimes happens:

                        1) You accidentally enter an invalid package command, so it does not complete, but it does set a lock on the package manager, which is then not removed because the command failed.

                        For example, when you type

                        apt install -t buster-backports supertuxkart

                        that is invalid unless it is issued when logged in as root

                        Next, you type

                        sudo apt install -t buster-backports supertuxkart

                        which is a valid command, but now the apt command is locked.

                        2) Sometimes the lock will go away if you logout or reboot your system, but that may not work all the time.

                        3) If you are unable to use the package manager because of an unremoved lock, if you know where to find it you can remove it with root privileges

                        You can look in the directory /var/log. The file dpkg.log (older ones are numbered or compressed with numbers). When you edit or display the log you can find the message indicating when the package manager has been locked, including the name of the lock file. It will be somewhere in the /var directory hierarchy; there may be a soft link including /var/lock. Some systems have resources in the /var/cache or /var/log directories. If you examine these you will find some useful information. Should you find a lock, you can remove it, provided you are using root or sudo access to the specific file.

                          Olá PPC e blur13.

                          Eu primeiro fiz o downgrade com o gerenciador de pacotes Synaptic, como eu nunca havia feito isso antes, o marcelocripe me ajudou me orientando através do https://meet.jit.si/. O resultado do teste está no arquivo supertuxkart test 0.9.3-2 oldstable.txt.

                          O segundo teste funcionou perfeitamente e está detalhado no arquivo supertuxkart final test 1.2+ds2-1~bpo10+1.txt.

                          Eu agradeço ao PPC e ao blur13 por nos ajudar e ao marcelocripe pela paciência e por não desistir.

                          I first downgraded with the Synaptic package manager, as I had never done this before, marcelocripe helped me by guiding me through https://meet.jit.si/. The test result is in the supertuxkart test 0.9.3-2 oldstable.txt file.

                            Mr Brian, thank you very much for posting for me.

                            This forum keeps blocking posts. I cleared the Chromium and Firefox ESR history and tried to submit the answers to the tests I did, but the forum kept displaying the message *** Forbidden. You sent forms too often. Please wait a few minutes. Contains contacts. *** or that the content was Spam. Which is not true.

                            Thank you for your explanations, unfortunately, at this very moment, I am no longer in front of the computer that can no longer run the supertuxkart, perhaps at the weekend I can return and perform new tests.

                            I will try to post again here in this topic the text I sent to you and the attached file containing the results of the tests. At this moment I am at another IP address.

                            Senhor Brian, muito obrigado por postar por mim.

                            Este fórum continua bloqueando as postagens. Eu limpei o histórico do Chromium e do Firefox ESR e tentei enviar as respostas dos testes que eu fiz, mas o fórum continuava exibindo a mensagem *** Forbidden. You sent forms too often. Obrigado por suas explicações, infelizmente, neste exato momento, eu não estou mais em frente ao computador que não consegue mais executar o supertuxkart, talvez no final de semana eu poderei retornar e realizar novos testes.

                            Eu vou tentar postar novamente aqui neste tópico o texto que eu enviei para o senhor e o arquivo anexo contendo o resultado dos testes. Neste momento eu estou em um outro endereço de IP.

                              “Hello PPC and blur13.

                              I thank you for participating in this topic.

                              I applied the commands that are in the attached file “test_no_supertuxkart_09-03-2022.txt”, I would love to be able to post the full text content here in this thread, but this spam system makes using this forum unbearably boring, because everything I try to post I get the message *** Forbidden. You sent forms too often. Please wait a few minutes. Contains contacts. *** or that it is Spam.

                              Thank you.”

                              Note: I just saw that felipecardope managed to make supertuxkart 1.2+ds2-1~bpo10+1 work successfully and also managed to post much faster the results of the tests we did through a video call. I haven’t succeeded yet.

                              “Olá PPC e blur13.

                              Eu agradeço por vocês participarem deste tópico.

                              Eu apliquei os comandos que estão no arquivo anexo “teste_no_supertuxkart_09-03-2022.txt”, eu gostaria muito de poder postar o conteúdo do texto na íntegra aqui neste tópico, mas este sistema de Spam torna a utilização deste fórum insuportavelmente chata, pois tudo que eu tento postar eu recebo a mensagem *** Forbidden. You sent forms too often. Please wait a few minutes. Contains contacts. *** ou que é Spam.

                              Grato.”

                              Obs.: Eu acabei de ver que o felipecardope conseguiu fazer funcionar o supertuxkart 1.2+ds2-1~bpo10+1 com sucesso e ainda conseguiu postar muito mais rápido os resultados dos testes que fizemos por meio de uma chamada de vídeo. Eu ainda não obtive sucesso.

                                Looks like we got the posts from Marcelo in here, possibly even “duplicated”. If we need to remove any of them, just say so, otherwise it’s pretty clear what has been done so far and how to “get around it” (that is, resolve it).

                                If I can be of further assistance please let me know. Hopefully this discussion now has the latest comments included. Best wishes to all!
