I am glad to read that the issue was solved.

Apparently felipecardope was successful; Marcelo has not indicated that his problem has been solved. Hopefully we’ll get this resolved soon for all.

        Hello everybody.

I followed the same steps as we did, the felipecardope and myself. First I “downgraded” with the Synaptic package manager to use the “supertuxkart 0.9.3-2 oldstable” package. The test result was that I hear the music but the game screenshots do not open.

The second test with the package “supertuxkart 1.2+ds2-1~bpo10+1” worked partially, it’s unfortunate what I saw, the game images open, but everything is extremely slow, “crashing”, the characters are deformed, the race environment is all incomplete and deformed.

We now have one less GNU/Linux game running on the computer:

        cp5@antix5:~
        $ inxi -Fnz
        System:
        Kernel: 4.9.0-264-antix.1-amd64-smp x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: IceWM 2.9.6
        Distro: antiX-19.4_x64-full Grup Yorum 20 May 2021
        Machine:
Type: Desktop Mobo: ASUSTeK model: P5PE-VM v: Rev 1.00 serial: <filter>
        BIOS: American Megatrends v: 1105 date: 10/27/2006
        CPU:
Info: Single Core model: Intel Pentium 4 bits: 64 type: MT cache:
        L2: 1024 KiB

Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.4 driver: loaded: intel
        resolution: 1024×768~85Hz
OpenGL: renderer: Mesa DRI Intel 865G v: 1.3 Mesa 18.3.6

The results of the tests performed are detailed in the attached file: “teste_no_supertuxkart_12-03-2022.txt”

I would like to thank everyone who helped us in some way, to felipecardope for being patient and not giving up.

        cp5@antix5:~
        $ inxi -Fnz
        System:
        Kernel: 4.9.0-264-antix.1-amd64-smp x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: IceWM 2.9.6

        resolution: 1024×768~85Hz
OpenGL: renderer: Mesa DRI Intel 865G v: 1.3 Mesa 18.3.6

Hi Marcelo! I’m glad you have made some progress on the supertuxkart game. I took a quick look at it. Two thoughts: 1) since the system you have to use is fairly old, the repository and the version of the game you are downloading is also pretty old. 2) that might be one possible problem; not sure if there are defects that are resolved in newer versions of the game or not.

          3) the other possibility is that there is some capability required by the game that your hardware/software combination is not able to properly handle or manage.

If you want to experiment some more, https://supertuxkart.net/Main_Page is the site that supports this effort. You can see that there are versions available for Linux, Windows, MacOS, and Android. There is actually a SuperTuxKart 1.3 version available now, but I don’t know whether that would work for you or not. Since the one you tried didn’t work properly, it *may* be worth looking into other versions from their site; that is up to you to decide if it is worth your time and effort or not. Best wishes!

For what it’s worth, I downloaded the latest version of SuperTuxKart 1.3 myself, but I’m running a much newer instance of siduction on a relatively current generation Acer Aspire 5 Model A515-55. It’s not a high end laptop by any means, but it’s new enough to run the latest kernels well and the older stuff not very well, because the drivers on this hardware are 1-2 years old at the most. Anyway, it worked. I’m not a gamer, so I didn’t do much with it, but I did start it up and drove the kart down the road and around one or two curves; the music, the video and the response was fine.

Not sure if this will work for everyone, but I did confirm that the current software works on reasonably current generation hardware for anyone with that kind of setup. Best wishes on finding a version that works. Since they do have multiple versions available on their download site, perhaps experimenting with a few of the versions will result in the one that actually works for you and others. I hope this is helpful.

Reading the FAQ for system requirements shows that newer versions of the game require pretty powerful hardware, Many of us,
even more so in third world country’s will have to play older less graphics intensive versions.

CPU ab I5 is recommended, GPU with 1GB Graphics Memory. a backup rendering engine is incorporated in the game, so it may
be to some extent playable on older hardware but not on very old devices.
I can play it on my device from ca.2012. I5 2500 K (Overclocked) and GeForce GTX 550 Ti which has the minimum recommended
              video RAM of 1GB.

The specification Marcello posted is sadly way too under powered for faster action games.

I can say I tested supertuxkart on my brand new installation – antiX 21 64bits full- on a single core atom CPU with 1 gig of RAM shared- 8 mb used by the GPU- and although a bit slow, it’s completely playable – so, if you are lucky enough to have hardware that supports antiX 21, you can/should update to it to be able to enjoy the latest versions not only of supertuxkart, but any other application available in the Debian repository – it sucks, having to replace a system for a newer version, and 21 does use a tiny bit more RAM than 19 does – but it’s worth it…

                P.

If you have old hardware, make sure you disable all intensive Graphics when you start supertuxkart

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

The package “supertuxkart 1.2+ds2-1~bpo10+1” was what worked, when the game screen opened I went into the settings and reduced the graphics settings. Even so, the images are defective. It’s a shame that the older package “supertuxkart 0.9.3-2 oldstable” didn’t work, the game screen doesn’t open and I can just hear the game’s music playing.

I thank everyone for their explanations.
