In recent years, gaming in Linux had a very large revolution with Steam’s proton, than allows to play over 12.000 windows games on Linux… but, running recemt games can be a chalenge on us folks that use antiX because our hardware is old… How to play recent games even on crappy hardware?
I tested “google stadia”- because I’m too cheap (and broke) to buy games, I stuck with the 2 free games: “Destiny 2” and “Bomberman” – and boy, did Destiny 2 amaze me – I was a gammer until some 20 years ago (time flies 🙁 ). And I’m mostly used to play on my android phone. But seeing an HD game on my computer’s screen that looked like an interative Starwars movie, even on my not very recent hardware, was an extremely pleasent surprise… If you have stadia available in you country, create a free google account and give this a try, if you like gamming!
(Hey, Google is minning the crap out of our personal data, so why not have a few ours of fun on their expense?)

        Related to this subject:

You can also play one of the most played games in the world via browser: Counter Strike

        It’s available in: cs-online.club

And it basically downloads the game inside your browser, so you can play it using firefox (and not only using chrome, that Stadia requires)-

Too much free time this week end- I’ve been mentally exausted, so games and movies for me, to rest my mind- I recalled I had an old Doom3 for Linux demo- it was faster to find the installer on-line than searching old dvd’s: it’s over at:
            https://files.holarse-linuxgaming.de/native/Spiele/Doom%203/Demo/doom3-linux-1.1.1286-demo.x86.run

It’s 32bits only– it causes a segmentation fault on 64 bits system. If you have a 64 bits system, like me, there’s a workaround: install dhewm, the open source engine that plays Doom3 and Doom3 demo, it’s over at:
            https://github.com/dhewm/dhewm3/releases/download/1.5.1_RC2/dhewm3_1.5.1_RC2_Linux_amd64.tar.gz

Extract the file and then you have to extract the demo and put the needed .pk4 file in dhew’s “base” folder:
            sh doom3-linux-1.1.1286-demo.x86.run --tar xf demo/

You can then run the executable “dhewm3” file to play the game – you can click it and run it from your file manager (or create a .desktop file to run it from the menu or toolbar/desktop icon)

It’s been years since I last played this, but I remember it’s a huge Demo, and it’s graphics are still quite impressive even by today’s standards…

Man. I used to freedos ,edit: dosbox. a bunch when frustrated with home project problems.

My dos folder must have had about a 100 games in it.

                Doom, Quake, etc……

Got bored with it though like everything else.

I don’t think I could log into google with my Links2 and Dillo box. Also no Java or youtube heavy internet then.
xmms or mocp would be useful then anyways. Streaming radio.
