I updated Antix and Zoom wasn’t re-installed. I can’t now re-install it. When I open the Zoom DEB file with gdebi, it looks OK, but when I click Install, gdebi vanishes and nothing else happens. The version I downloaded today is Zoom for 32 bit OS Debian 7.7+ and looks to be the same file which I downloaded and installed perfectly OK a few months ago.
What’s going on – I missing something obvious…?
System info attached.
Many thanks
Andy

::Don’t use gdebi – it has lots of problems installing .deb packages – that’s why it is not provided in antiX 21
You can try this: use the terminal:
sudo apt install --reinstall
leave a space after reisntall and drag and drop your file to the terminal. Press enter to execute the command and enter your password if asked to…If you want to use a gui, install the package ft10-transformation , available in the repository and right click the .deb file you want to install using a file manager (I suggest spacefm or zzzfm) and select to open the file with “debinstaller” – it’s a simple GUI for “apt install”
Edit: probably it’s better to install zoom from antiX’s Package Installer

::One of the instructions on the Zoom site suggested the use of Gdebi; that’s probably the reason that Andy3142 attempted to install that way.
There are further instructions for installing Zoom from a command; there are also Zoom extensions for both the Firefox and Chrome web browsers; that may work out better, at least for those who use either of those web browsers.Otherwise, take a look at the following page, where there are other options and alternatives available:

::Also, as many people know, there is a basic free version of Zoom, and there are also a series of commercial Zoom products for business and high volume use.
The page at https://us05web.zoom.us/pricing clearly explains the options; the one at the FAR LEFT- “Basic” is probably what most of us have used.
You can host a meeting there either by creating an account or using a Google or Facebook account. For those who do not like Zoom, there are other alternatives available too; some are probably hosted on Linux servers; for those interested, more than one software review site provides lists of alternative (and free software) versions of many applications that provide free and/or open alternatives to many commercial software applications.
A few reasonably intelligent searches will yield a lot of information; filter, select, and read carefully and there’s a lot to consider.

We can all agree on that… let’s hope the OP’s computer does too 🙂

::@PPC, thank you that worked perfectly. Thanks to everyone else as well, didn’t try your ideas because PPC’s worked first time.
