When I try and connect my laptop to a wifi signal I get the following dialog box pop up.
Could not connect to wicd’s D-Bus interface. Check the wicd log for error messages.
When I close the dialog box, wicd resumes and lets me view and connect to the available wifi networks. So it works. I just thought I’d mention it.
At home I use ceni to connect to my main network and no issues there.

::What is happening is that the backend WiCD service isn’t running when you, which the client tries to tell you with that great obtuse message when you start it up.
WiCD can be configured to start automatically at boot either with the Live media “WiCD” options or by editing /etc/default/wicd. (I think that’s the file. Might be /etc/default/wicd.conf or something like that.). There is an obvious line to change in that file, which upon reboot, will enabled the wicd backend service.

::Thanks for getting back to me dolphin. Here is the contents of my /etc/default/wicd file:
# Start the daemon by default, let the user disable it.
# Use “no” (without quotes) to make /etc/init.d/wicd *NOT* start the WICD daemon.
START_DAEMON=no# By default don’t kill connections on daemon shutdown, see
# https://bugs.debian.org/816076 and
# https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~wicd-devel/wicd/experimental/revision/851
DAEMON_ARGS=”–keep-connection”Do I just uncomment the first line? Or specifically what do I add/change?

::The above worked for me too – but how to make the wicd tray icon to appear in the panel at startup?
(using antix 17)

::In controlcentre -> Session -> User Desktop Sessio, uncomment wicd line in startup file
Sorry for jumping in, but when I uncomment “wicd-client -t &” and reboot I get an authorization popup window (like I would start synaptic for example) each time when the desktop is loaded.
😮I can enter my user password and the network icon appears in the panel….ok
But that’s a little bit inconvenient 😉
So I comment the line “wicd-client -t &” again.
No network icon of course. 😉Best regards,
Fonsis

::Should look like this
# Uncomment to show wicd networking monitor #wicd-client -t & grep -q "START_DAEMON=no" /etc/default/wicd || wicd-client -t &December 24, 2017 at 11:29 pm #4317Member

::Thanks everybody. I see that for the wicd daemon to be working and for the tray icon to start automatically on startup, 2 conditions need to be fulfilled:
1. in /etc/default/wicd file:
#START_DAEMON=no [line commented]
2. In controlcentre -> Session -> User Desktop Session:
wicd-client -t & [line uncommented]
grep -q “START_DAEMON=no” /etc/default/wicd || wicd-client -t &that way, everything works OK and the problem that Fonsis mentions does not occur.
