Hello, folks!
Just introducing myself here. I’ve been using antiX for a little over a year now and thought it was time to create an account here as I’ve surfed this forum daily for a long time now.Anyway, love antiX!! I’ve tried MX a handful of times but always find myself back here for one reason or another. My uses are simple. Listening to music, podcasts, web browsing, and e-mail. Maybe an ancient game or two through Wine every now and then. Certified frugaler! 😀
I’ve got the addiction of breathing new life into old hardware, but also run antiX on my newest hardware as well.
Glad to be aboard!
Strictly frugal!

::Hello waxgoat.
Welcome to antiX Linux and the Forum.
Everything I’m going to write below, you must have already read it, since you confirmed something I wrote here on the forum a few times “… I know several people who don’t have an account on this forum, but consult it often …”
I don’t know how to write in English and send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything. If your native language is not English, please translate my original Portuguese language text in Brazil directly into your language with the help of internet translators that you will get a much better result.
Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you read these excellent tutorials:
What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum. How to get HELP with an antiX PROBLEM.When I started using Antix, I read the tutorials that the PPC created, these readings spared me a lot of my time and I think it saves the time of any new Antix user. Your time will not be lost with these readings, it will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You will not waste your time with internet searches or even create new topics, on the contrary, you will earn a lot of time from these readings. I recommend you try the work areas that have “ZZZ” in your name. I usually use the “ZZZ-Icewm” or “ZZZ-JWM” or “ZZZ-Fluxbox” (each of these work areas have their own characteristics and consume more or less resources). ZZZFM will be the default file manager in your desktop, it is very similar to other file managers from other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access the other Antix work areas, click the Antix menu (or right -click), desktop, switch between desktops and click on the work area name, instantly to desktop will be loaded.
In the Portuguese language area of this forum, there are several tutorials that may be useful for you . Use an automatic translator from the internet so you can understand the text.
Whenever you need to request technical help or support in this forum, explain in detail what is happening, do not save the words, be thorough when writing, enter the characteristics of your computer, such as the brand and the model. If possible, post the result of the command $ Inxi -zv7 of the terminal, copy and paste here in the message of the topic you create in this forum.
When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option “Notify Me of Follow-Up Replies via email”, marking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are answers from topic in question.

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.
How to get HELP with an antiX PROBLEM.Quando eu comecei a utilizar o antiX, eu li os tutoriais que o PPC criou, estas leituras me pouparam muito do meu tempo e acho que poupa o tempo de qualquer novo usuário do antiX.

::Hi and welcome to the forum. It was months, probably almost one year, since I initially tested antiX and created my account here in the forum,
I always say that this is the lightest full blow Linux Distro available, and now it’s almost as easy to use as OSes know for being user friendly (like Mint, MX-linux, etc). Most tasks can be performed using GUI’s, and it’s safe to assume antiX 23 will ship with zzzfm as default file manager, with enough tweaks to make it look as any default File Manager available in other OSes, but keeping it as light as always (and still ofering the even lighter Rox filer as a secondary GUI File Manager). IT will come come with a GUI to allow easy installation of off-line .deb files, an updated antiX-Updater (that only takes literally the press of a button to complete the process), updated app-select (our app finder/launcher), and many other tweaks to make it easier to manage the hardware or the configuration of the software.
The best publicity I can give antiX? If it runs on a 32bits laptop with 1 Gb of RAM and allows me to have a modern Web browser (Seamonkey), a File Manager (zzzfm), and a Word Processor (in my case, OpenOffice’s Writer, running in 32-bits appimage format), all well bellow 500mb of RAM!… Now imagine how well it will run in a machine with more modern resources (that allows you to run comfortably a more modern web browser and office suite)!P.

::Thank you guys for the warm welcome. Very good community support here. My next project is to start with the core ISO and build from there. Still a while from doing that for me, but soon. 🙂

The Core ISO is awesome and it’s a great way to build exactly what you want.
When Core first came out, I was right there to try it and use it.
It’s been quite a while since I last built a Core based instance, so I’m not
entirely certain any more exactly what’s in the Core without either looking
at the description or the list of core packages. One thing that is pretty important is a network from which to construct
the remainder of the system. That implies, for those of us (like me), who
no longer have any Ethernet availability, that a set of packages including
WiFi software (and firmware, if needed) is available; I’m not sure if that
is the case or not. After using Core a LOT when it first came out, I kept my Core as a Sid
implementation, and therefore I got multiple years out of that first instance. When I started using Base quite a bit, I’d use either Testing or Sid too.
Right now, my antiX 22 is a Stable, runit based setup.
I’m also running antiX 23 Beta 1.Best wishes; if you want to share about your Core experience, I recommend
a separate topic in the Software category/section.In general, as we discuss various things, look to see if they pertain to
a specific release, hardware, software, general tips, other distributions,
or just the general conversation; we have distinct sections for each of these.Looking forward to hearing more about your experience as you participate
in the forum!--

::Thankfully, antiX core includes wifi (run “ceni” to set it up), with more firmware available than most other distros I’ve tried out.
Here’s a core tutorial in case you think it may be helpful:
